The Intrardweebs had me anticipating failures in my new tube combo with such certainty, I contacted a repair tech about taking a proactive approach with maintenance. He said (and I paraphrase): "Are you naff? You've got a brand new ampflifier that probably has less than ten hours on it. If anything goes wrong with it, you've got a five-year warranty from the manufacturer. Why not play through it and see what happens?"

Yes, play it!!!! Loud and hard!! Just make sure to unplug the speakers before you do, so there is no load on the amp itself. It will break much easier that way!!

Once you have it sounding good and performing reliably it's time to move on. It's a matter of priorities. Why bother playing when there are so many gear options to lust over and eventually buy?

Well, it's already performing reliably from the factory. That's not really enough, though. It needs me to think it should perform reliably. Same thing for sound. I can like the sound of an amp all I want, but until the features and specs line up with that sound, does it really sound that good? You see, it's more import that I think a piece of gear should sound a certain way than whether it actually does. Then I can stop all that bothersome listening and just know that it sounds good.

Make some sound clips of you using it reliably and then you can play them back and listen to that good sound when you want to and not wear out the amp and other things, like guitar strings and finger nails..

But you have that one crap-o-matic standby that sounds fully bunk but would never do anything as interesting as break.

I completely understand this. You know you sound good when you plug that favorite guitar into a good set of specs/

This thread is so neurotic that it makes my skin crawl. I can't believe you guys spend so much time stressing about trivial detail and nuances when you could be playing rocknroll music. I have amps as old as my dad with their original tubes that play and sound great. **** the internet, the forums, and the spec sheets. Long live rocknroll.
