I know some of you were interested in the Atomic Amp with the digital modeller of your choice. But I had to try the Atomic out with a real good tube preamp for my own curiosity.
Well finally got around to testing the Atomic Amp out with my old fire breathing Kasha Rockmod II+c (actually modded to the Rockmod III specs by John Kasha). I didn't get to play super loud here at home, but as killer as this sounds with the PODxt, it took on a life of it's own with the Kasha.
If your not familiar with this out of production beast, visit this page from my old band site I setup for their amps... http://www.instituteofnoise.com/bi/kasha.html It's a 3 channel amp... clean, crunch and burn.
The Cleans were thick with lots of head room for it's 18 watts. The Crunch was Marshall-esqe focused and gritty in humbucker mode. In single coil mode, it started to take on some vox/matchless quality. Finally, the burn channel was for over the top gain. Like a Plexi on steroids! Lot's of blistering sustain, biting pinch harmonics and heavy fat chords. And this was with a low output Antiquity Duncan Humbucker I have setup as splittable.
The only thing left to do with this is hook up both Atomics, add some effects in the chain and give it more volume. The Rockmod has been sitting for ages, but may get a new lease now that it's easier to cart around than having a big rack and heavy power amp and 4x12's!
