My Bass V-Amp just crapped out...

so i wanted to play some bass and my Bass V-amp has died(strange high frequency whisteling, weird distorting of higher frequency, no sound from some banks, no matter where i turn volume and gain, doesn't store my own presets anymore). I only had this for like 2 months and i didn't put that much use on it(maybe an hour per day at max)
I'm a bit torn right now. On the one hand i got some great tones out of it and quite like the unit in itself, but on the other hand now i just fear that the next one might just crap out just as easily(it's still under warranty and i can get an exchange).
Should just get it replaced or do you think i should send it back and exchange it for something else that might do the same job at roughly the same price(only thing i know might be the hartke vxl bass attack)?

Re: My Bass V-Amp just crapped out...

I'd HIGHLY suggest replacing it with a Sansamp Bass Driver. I absolutely love those things for bass tones.

Re: My Bass V-Amp just crapped out...

buddy of mine has a guitar vamp and it's a great unit..not something I would use but he gets some good tones out of it live and his recordings sound pristine and perfect....and he's beat that thing to hell and back...knocked knobs off and had to reglue them to stay on, etc...but it still works like a champ.

Hope maybe that helps your decision a bit...yours may have been just a rare case

Re: My Bass V-Amp just crapped out...

Try replacing the battery first. I've had two V-Amps, had weird issues with both that were solved by a new battery.

That thing looks great put it's about double the price of the v-amp and i don't no if it would be worth it. We have a huge hartke bass stack at our rehearsal space that i can use, so i don't need something for live use.
The v-amp is mainly a practice/headphone amp for me and some recording samples, but not much more.

the bass v-amp runs on a wall adapter. No battery to replace and if the adapter wouldn't be working it wouldn't even power up i guess.

just curious - he's got the rack version? I'd like to know which is the best versus the pedal, rack, and bean. i like what i'm hearing so far.

Yeah, he's got the rack version.. It serves him very well and he does get decent tones out of it. I've never seen the pedal or hte bean version...but the rack is a good unit. Especially for the price you pay for it

Theres a battery inside that maintains the settings. Same thing happend to my V-Amp. Took the back off, replaced the lithium battery (CR2032) and voila! all back to normal.

Re: My Bass V-Amp just crapped out...

try out the sansamp. it's a truly amazing piece of kit. not a digital emulator, all analog.

Re: My Bass V-Amp just crapped out...

God bless yall dudes that said something about the battery in the back. I have a regular ole V Amp that crapped out on me a year or so ago. I said the hell with it and just threw it in a corner. I always loved the unit, but it didn't bother me too much since I bought it for like $70 and I'd gotten a year's or so use out of it. I'm gonna have to try this and see if it get's it back up runnin. I always got some cool tones out of it, especially the clean weird ones. Thanks again!!:)
