none of my tools can effectively tighten the nuts on my speakers.
i think they need to be tightened, but i cant get at some of them.
do i need a special fender tool or something? lol.

any help would be sweet.

also, is this a normal thing that you have to do with your amp?

Re: my Bassman needs a tightening.

can you be a little more specific on the model of bassman??

FWIW, i know that when i swapped out my speakers in the cab of my '66 blackface bassman, i got lucky that my dad has owned british cars for a long time.... the nuts were a british standard size!! I don't know if they even make tools that size anymore. I wanna say it was a british standard 3/16ths, but i could be wrong.

3/16 would be imperial, or standard, as far as I can tell.. :eek13:

Re: my Bassman needs a tightening.

Well, when i was doing this i tried both imperial and metric, and neither would fit. My dad dug out his british standard sockets, which i believe have the same #s as imperial, however they are different sizes.

Strange.

I find it hard to believe that there were no sockets in metric OR imperial that would fit though!!

Re: my Bassman needs a tightening.

An 11/16" nut driver from Vermont American (model 511111)
that I bought in a hardware store is what I use. Has a green handle and looks like a screwdriver but has an 11/16" socket on the end.

nope, not unless you get into half millimeters or strange fractions in imperial, which i don't have. I mean, considering its an american made amp from the 60s, all i brought upstairs with me was the imperial socket set. I was confused when neither sets worked!

Anyway, any more specific info tom waits? Which model bassman, are there certain nuts you just can't get to because of the chassis etc being in the way?

Re: my Bassman needs a tightening.

if i took the chassis out i can get at all of them. its a matter of having a socket type tool to really grab a hold of the nuts and get good leverage. the ones i have slip off of the nuts.

Re: my Bassman needs a tightening.

kegel exercises...LOL!!!! That will tighten it up!

Where you been Tom???

Re: my Bassman needs a tightening.

i think they need to be tightened

what makes you think so?

the nuts that hold speakers should not be over tightened ... over tightening can warp the frames

just a bit more than finger tight should be fine

and when you tighten, you should go back and forth between opposing sides

I use a regular Craftsman 3/8" driver & socket, but I have to pull the handle out a little as it reaches the bottom
