My blind hate of strats

you know, I've hated strats based on the totally wrong guitars. I've played a few squiers and a few MIMs and i had decided that I hated strats and the way the sound. This was wrong. I played an MIJ through a blues junior and I realized that they aren't bad guitars. I'd take a stang or a Duo II anyday over a strat. but they aren't bad guitars.

:smack:

btw, this doesn't mean that I will buy one. Cause I won't but they're neat guitars none the less. Although I don't think they deserve the fame they recieved.

Re: My blind hate of strats

Glad you won't be buying one...that leaves more Strats for me! (laugh!)

Re: My blind hate of strats

I'm kinda in the same boat as you cream. I've never played a strat that really meshed with me. Lately tho, my tele GAS has made me GAS for a strat tho. Hardtail sunburst with maple mmmmmm.

Re: My blind hate of strats

Well if i had to decide i'd go for a Tele instead of a strat but in general Superstrats are where it's at, not that singlecoil, vintage-trem equipped junk :P
Though i gotta admit that my malmsteen strat kicks lots of butt.

Most stock Strat's leave me a little meh... but I played an SRV at a local shop, and WOW. Those are REALLY nice players. I even like the single coils on those. Strats are one of those guitars that can be really great when all the right elemnts are there, but for me tend to be typically mediocre in most cases.

See... you get smarter as you get older. :14:

I used to hate strats but then I played one and was actually impressed, but like you not impressed enough to actually buy one.

Re: My blind hate of strats

Cream . . . you're too young to be talking absolutes. Hell, I'm in my fifties and I'm still trying to decide between Maryann or Ginger.

Re: My blind hate of strats

Yeah, it took me awhile to come around to Strats, but they're pretty much the best guitars out there. You can keep 'em stock, mod 'em, or completely disassemble and build you own frankenstein's monster. They're pretty amazing and versatile guitars with an endless amount of options.

Re: My blind hate of strats

Ehh... after nearly 12 years of playing, I've never played one that made me a believer. Just not my style. The best sounding one I've played was a squire bullet with an invader in it. Sounded great but the neck was absolutely horrific. Too bad I let a friend borrow it, who let his brother borrow it, who let his friend borrow it (unknown to me) and the last set of hands it came to "lost" it. Oh well, I'm more of a bucker guy and gibby style guitars do that better in my opinion.

Yes, especially considering the initial judgment was based on cheaper models. Also, one day he'll understand that if not for the Strat, Fender never would've made any of the toy guitars he and Slade love so much :D

Seriously, that's kind of like saying, "Eh, Mozart's ok, but he's really overrated."

Re: My blind hate of strats

The lifetime of a guitarist often consists of the gradual transition from humbuckers to single coils. You just don't realize it till you've been playing 20+ years. Your ear seeks purity more and more.

But that's not to say humbuckers can't be enjoyed for a lifetime too. However, over time, most people start wanting to hear purer sounding humbuckers with lower output and more dynamic range.

There's a lot of truth there. I just "discovered" A2 humbuckers and low DCR singles. Love 'em both.
