My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

Re: My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

Anyway, you can't say weather Tele is better than LP, they are just so much different, and hard to compare tone wise.
It's hard to have a guitar that will hover over everything in all styles of music.

+1. My point exactly (with a little antagonism thrown for fun).

Exactly. No one guitar does everything well. When you want country twang and chicken pickin', Tele's will beat an LP every time.

Re: My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

If modding a Tele with HBs makes it not a Tele, then how is the dual HB LP a real LP, since for the first 5 years of it's life it had single coils?

Well, even though they're all single coils of some sort, few of us are going to mistake the sound of a P-90 LP for a SS Tele or an SSS Strat.

Re: My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

Which brings me to the question....

If Teles are so superior to LP's, Why is it so popular to try and turn it into a LP by putting humbuckers in it?? And why do you rarely hear of someone trying to make a LP into a Tele by putting a Broadcaster or a Jerry Donahue in it??

No one "tries to turn a tele into a les paul". What are you saying? That super strats are also trying to be les pauls? what about Jackson Soloists? Les Pauls also? and the ibanez Sabre, I guess that's an SG huh?

Gretsch Electromatic? Also a Paul?

Call it what you want, but they're borrowing heavily from Gibson, with various combinations of HB's, P-90's, set necks, flame maple tops, rosewood fretboards, mahogany bodies, 4 pots, 3x3 tuners, large fret inlays, etc. The original Fender approach was economy and 'bare bones'. Evidently a lot of players want more than that, so these companies use Fender-shaped bodies and copied a lot of Gibson features. No shame in that.

I'm not understanding your sentences: "That super strats are trying to be les pauls? what about Jackson Soloists? Les Pauls also?" Are you accusing Les Pauls of trying to be Les Pauls? Whoa. Maybe this topic's got you all excited and you should lay down for a while. We'll be here when you wake up.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. There you go. Now your talking about THE real LP. That's my kind of guitar. LP + P-90's.

But...P-90 is not your typical single coil. Bigger, beefier, midrangier, tonier, lovelier, bitier, heavenlier, wonderfullness.

P-90's have a lot in common with old school Broadcaster pickups, to be honest. The rest, it's in the hands. That's the beauty of a tele. Just by fretting or picking differently, you can control how fat or how twangy a not will be.

FWIW, both my tele's have singles. Upgraded, yes, but singles in any case.

Re: My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

How can a tele with humbuckers be a LP? :smack: A tele will NEVER sound like a LP if you load the strings through the body. The twang can still be heard even with 2 HBs. It's a thing of beauty when you play chords and heard the twang with the HBs. It adds so much complexity to the chords, I love it!

Yeah, hopefully he enjoys what he has until he sells it to you LOL!

Haha, I'm sure he had bought this bass, you'd want it. :naughty: I know I want one! By the way, this has to be the heaviest bass I've ever played. If they had a white one when I was looking for a bass, I would have been all over this one.

Seeing how we're WAY off topic, I'm sure no one will mind.

HB's don't turn a Tele into an LP, but it's a PU created by Gibson. I think the point they're trying to make is that over the years Fenders have taken on more Gibson features than vice versa.

There's nothing that has the tone of an archtop, single cutaway Les Paul. And thankfully, there's no 'twang' there.

I'm sure you have a reasonable and valid reason for bumping this.

Re: My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

I was right about the hotrails. about 2 weeks later he called me asking for one.

now he's into pedals and stuff... and NOW he's shopping for an amp.

he wants one like mine.

seriously. -.-

Re: My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

Just read through this whole thread for the first time...

I don't think I've ever seen so much ignorance concentrated into one place...

Re: My bro made up his mind and bought a guitar...

Solid State Amps are the future. I use a Tech 21 and would never go back to Valve amps. With the energy ratings being tightened up around the world you might find things like valves are to come by soon.

I've heard this for 20 years of guitar playing. And guess what? Tube amps are still around and kicking.
