My buddy just got a Marshall...

Re: My buddy just got a Marshall...

I would agree with your sentiment if he's playing country, jazz, or old blues.

If he's playing rock... well then... that's another story entirely. ;)

Re: My buddy just got a Marshall...

Personally I probably wouldn't buy another Marshall because of my bad experience with them but I wouldn't fault someone else for picking one up, my uncle's class 5 is a pretty cool little amp....of course it could be his mesa 2x12 that makes it sound so good!

Just straight up tell him that you're an idiot and he'll understand.

Re: My buddy just got a Marshall...

You should tell him he needs both.

Re: My buddy just got a Marshall...

This brings to mind an interesting question. How many bands are there that played/play both Marshalls and Fender Guitar amps together on stage ?

Got a Fender combo next to a Marshall combo in my "playing haven." They get along gloriously. One likes single-coils; the other digs humbuckers. Sweet music is what they make together.

IMO - A Marshall can sound glorious clean with single coils. Different than a Fender, but still incredible.

Your rig is actually quite versatile. Not only do you have a Marshall head and Fender combo, but you have a PRS which is the only guitar I have ever heard that can pull off both convincing LP and Strat tones.:fing2:

Eric Johnson did. And does.

Marshall and Fender complement each other naturally. One nails the thick and creamy; the other gets clean and sublime. It's nice to have both.

And there are variations of that combination everywhere, i.e., Mark Tremonti with Mesas and Fenders, etc.
