I use the router bit from stewmac too that fits the hotrod trussrod. i like heal adjustments so i drill for the adjustment there. pretty simple installation as the trussrods come with instructions.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

I traded that one off to a buddy. I'm making another one right now. I wish I could have it finished by Monday. The VH Concert is Monday night here and I'd love to throw one up on stage for Ed. I had that one compared to the $25k replica by a couple of pro's here and they said mine felt and played better. Oh well, I guess Fender and all their money makes them "get it" better.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

S*** those EVH-replicas are HAWT! If you don't play them much, send them to me. I'll PM my address. AND I'll pay for the shipping. :D:D:D

Perhaps Ed's axe isn't so good on playability at all ?

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

Don't you think if you were really proud of a guitar and really liked the way it played you would have it on stage with you for more than a song or two per concert. I've heard from several people that he only plays a couple of songs per show with the $25k replica.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
He said the Fender Replica played better than the original... Man!!!... the original must have really sucked!
I'm a total VH fan and I love the guitars so I'm just talking trash. I can;t wait to see the concert Monday!
Can't sell it, but I can trade...

Well, he has played the original Frankie on stage for a long time, so he's used to it.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

ya i'm sure ED has a different taste in guitar set ups than some of us... and ya i'm sure he has gotten used to doing things his own way..

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

but why wouldn't he play it more if it's "all that".

true... he did record a lot of VH's best stuff with that guitar... and it soon became the bands trade mark.... It was "better" to him then any mass produced guitars he could find at the time... i would think it's special because of the place and time it was used... that thing had been so heavily modded so often i often wonder if it was really that special of a guitar other then it was his trade mark.... who would replace the necks and bridges and even PU's on a guitar that was sopposed to be a golden child..? i mean he did break a few necks and or warp some because of the lack of finnish... some necks were changed because of the deal with Kramer!

that guitar just seemed like a constant experiment...

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

I've studied the frankenstein endlessly and I've replicated it, traded it, dismantled it and started over several times. If you can get the setup right it's a great guitar. I have a black and white version that has teh original setup and it's one of my best playing guitars.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

I didn't realize people put the strings on backwards on Floyd guitars!.

Now I know why I inserted the strings backwards through the tuners first. My 7 month old daughter loves to crawl up to me when I'm playing and I sit on the floor so she can. She grabs at the headstock and anything else she can reach. I was playing one of my guitars that I did not leave the ball on and before I could stop her she poked her finger with the high-e. After the wailing stopped I switched guitars and sure enough she didn't learn anything and started the same thing again. She was all over the headstock and her fingers were safe.
Lesson learned... by me at least.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

I'll use that reverse ball end trick from now on. Like that idea. Thanks for posting it.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

Been installing them that way on my first (and up to now only) Floyd guitar since day one, until I replaced the stock tuners with Sperzels that is :9:
It didn't only make string changing faster, it also made them stay better at the tuner posts :)

So what happened with the guitar anyway man?
I've been dying to find a chance to build (read: assemble) one for a long time but I just can't justify the cost for one (plus, I don't actually need another shred guitar, sadly :p)

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

The guitar is here. I haven't decided to part with it. I did build another one that is similiar, but I used a Vintage Floyd Rose and my Custom Wound WarEd pickup in it. Painted it Dodge Viper Blue. I'm making a Birdseye Maple Pickup Ring for it today.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

Finch? :9:

What exactly is the Vintage Floyd Rose?
The one without the fine tuners?

BTW, that's one hell of a great looking neck.
How does it feel/play like?

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

Finch is my last name and since I have no plans of selling it I blatently used the Fender headstock and font. Once I got it set up the way I like it it plays and feels incredible. I make my own bodies and necks so I can make them exactly to the specs that work for me.

Re: My Charvacaster with a Dimebucker

Yeah, I figured as much, it's just a nice touch that I liked :)

About that floyd?
