My Dimarzio Al DiMeola Neck (DP201) Review

Thanks for adding that review! I always liked Al's early tones, so I appreciate your thoughts. I don't know what Al is currently using these days, though.

Cool! i have known about the DiMeola set but had no idea they were making them that early on! I assumed Al was still using Super Ds at that point. These days if he ever plays an electric anymore! He was playing Paul Reed Smiths for a while and still is as far as I know, he had a signature for a while which was basically a McCarty, but with a trem and PRS 57/08 pickups.

Al is doing an 'Electric Years' tour in the US in late winter. When he comes here (Tampa Bay), I will be in LA for that week at NAMM. I did see him back in April, and he played about 3 electric songs.

Thank for your care. As we all know he was a serious user of Dual Sound humbuckers for years. But he used individual pickups very limited parts. He mostly prefers both humbuckers and fine tune with volume and tone controls. He used his signature pickups for a long while but more than a decade not using i assume. Probably stock PRS pickups?

His Prism guitar was so cool, right? It had PRS 57/08 and very cool paint job.

He used both PRS and an LP for his electric tunes last year. Since this upcoming tour is all about the mid 70s releases, I would assume it will be all LP, but I will wait until clips come up on YouTube.

@nienturi

Not to bring up an old thread, but I have a PRS CE24 with the 25" scale and the neck pickup in the 24 fret spot.

What do you think of the ADM neck if it were placed in the bridge?

I'm thinking Bluesbucker in the neck and ADM neck in the bridge, but I want to ask the opinion of someone who's actually used both. I love the Bluesbucker in the neck, and I love the ADM bridge.

ADM Neck in the bridge, hmm?

Well, ADM Neck measures 10.59K (6.43K S/4.19K N) DCR, 4.87H inductance, 380G density. Sounds warm yet clear in the neck. In the bridge, i believe it could work. Especially if you prefer humbuckers like PAF bridge pickups. Generally, i find those humbuckers with <5H's a little bit too bright (in the bridge) for my taste. 5.5/6.5H tastes much better.

Recently i took that ADM Neck and replaced with Bluesbucker. So i was thinking about to sell it. On the other hand, you could have given me a great idea. It could be great humbucker for fat strats. Being in a team with singles, yeah, it could work. But being in a team with another humbucker, a warm one? Hmmm, i am suspicious about it...

Yeah, I was definitely thinking about being more suited for pairing with single coils. My other option was ADMn bridge and put a Humbucker From Hell in the neck
