Hey guys!
So i have decided to lay some bills down on a cab. Getting a Vox 30' head. Now!!!

I'm thinking a 4x12 celestion blue cab...unsure on what a open/close cab would do to the sound??

Re: My first 4x12 cab!!

I doubt you'll find an open-back 4x12. Also, while it may possibly sound really good, loading a 4x12 with Celestion Blues will cost you an arm and a leg, with each speaker at an absolute minimum of $200 each (new).

Instead, you may consider getting a 2x12 convertible cabinet loaded with a pair of Blues. "Convertible" means you can have it closed-back (more focus and bottom end thmup) or open-back (more presence and sound dispertion), depending on your sound preference and/or venue.

Re: My first 4x12 cab!!

As Dr. Lo already prescribed above, a 4x12 with Celestion AlNiCo Blues would be close to $1,000.00 just for the speakers. It is a great idea if you have the money. I have some of Weber's Blue Dogs that I use with our AC30CCH. Another thing to consider might be the Eminence Red Fang. There are so many speaker and cabinet combinations available these days. Whatever you decide on will be great.
Congratulations :)

All the speakers are second hand, i have been collecting over the past 6 months, from people who dont know any better, or think they are 'just a speaker' . Garage sales rock!

Re: My first 4x12 cab!!

I'd rather go with a 2x12 then 4x12 because its more portable and more the vox tone. Convertible cab is a good idea to find what you like.

Go for the 4x12 for the win!! A good work out and some KILLER tone and thump!!! Besides, you know how much cooler it looks! :D

Re: My first 4x12 cab!!

I got a great old Orange 4 x 12 with greenbacks and it sounded really great, warm with loads of low end thump. I also have a 4 x 10 which is semi-open backed and it's superb, not quite the thump of the 4 x 12 but the spread of sound is awesome. So I thought I'd cut a new back for the Orange and put some slots like on my 4 x 10 and hoping that it would open that glorious sound up even more. To my disappointment it didn't work like that, the sound went from warm, tight and thumping to ... well... less of everything! Needless to say, I replaced the original back. Still, I'd go for a 4 x 12 if you have no problem storing and moving it.
