My First post!!! Ducan Distortion is this standard?

Hello all!
Right then to the nitty gritty.
I have just got hold of a Duncan distortion for my bridge pup and I was told it is one of the Hand wound versions (ddj) What I noticed is that the adjustable pole pieces are Brass(or brass coloured) as opposed to the nickel you see on pickups Have they been swapped or is this standard? I know some people change to brass to give a humbucker a more single coil sound?I have some nickel pole pieces I could drop in and probably will give them a go to see if there is much difference in the sound but just thought I'd ask the Pro's first!
Any help clarifying this would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers fellas

Squid....

the J means MJ wound it, not that it's hand wound.

Umm... the poles are probably just old and discolored, not really brass.

Re: My First post!!! Ducan Distortion is this standard?

No they ain't old as the pick up is in really good condition the only way i'm going to find out if they are solid brass is to take one out and have a scratch and see if the colour comes away, there is no discolouration on any of the pick up the fixed pole pieces have no oxidation , but judging by your reply brass is not standard? I do notice that the pup is very bright sounding more than my dimebucker in my other guitar and this could be whats causing it?
Anyway I'll swap pole pieces and see if it makes any difference.
Thanks for the quick reply mate.

just stick it in, rawk out... if you hate it; unsolder the pup and replace the old one.

Awww come on....fiddling with things till they break is half the fun of buying things......Just ask my missus...I'm sure she has a book hidden some where with a list of things i've wasted my money on....

Re: My First post!!! Ducan Distortion is this standard?

hey squid, the posts do not sound right. I'd swipe some from another pickup and see what happens.

If that DD was originally shipped with a gold cover, the posts would be gold colored.

Re: My First post!!! Ducan Distortion is this standard?

I bet it came with a gold cover, and it's since been removed.

As far as fiddling with stuff goes, I highly recommend you tear apart and put back together everything possible :) Definitely try swapping out the poles and see if it changes it. Try hex poles while you're at it.

Re: My First post!!! Ducan Distortion is this standard?

Thats it !!!! I bet it had a gold cover....My god sometimes you cant see the wood for the trees!!!
Cheers chaps i knew you'd get to the bottom of it :nana:

Re: My First post!!! Ducan Distortion is this standard?

Anyway you color it - it ROCKS!

Re: My First post!!! Ducan Distortion is this standard?

I was going to say brass poles wouldn't work as they are non magnetic. It would basically be the same as not having any poles.
