My first Scallop Attempt (Charvel Content)

Hey Guys,

I mentioned this is my new nut thread, but my Model 4 has seen alot of work in the last year. I tried to find my progress pics but couldn't dig them up...aw well. Did from 16th fret and up. In hindsight I should have done 15 as well but I didn't as I wanted a better 'anchor' for when playing up there in A, as its very common for me.

I also had to fill and redrill for the trem posts as seen in the last pic!

I actually like it a lot. Especially for a bolt on up high, the ability to use a lighter touch really works out.
Like I said, I probably should have done the 15th, I was just worried since its an 'anchor point' (when playing in A) that I may put too much pressure and bend sharp, but that's not an issue. I wouldn't necessarily do it to all my guitars, but because this one already needed so much work I gave er a shot.

Sweet! Glad it worked out for ya! With my luck I would've screwed the whole guitar! ;)

I am very intrigued by a Scalloped Fret guitar, just not enough to buy one :smash:

If you have an old beater I would suggest practicing on that first

I love a full-neck scallop. I have that on my #1, which is a Music Man with a Custom Custom and Alnico II Pro. I didn't dare do it myself though. There are a few specialty shops around that will do it right.

Yeah, I wouldn't be comfortable doing anything below....12 maybe. At that point your using a dremel and if you mis-shape it can just look like garbage.

I used a 1/4' round file and sandpaper for this job.

lol!! Was just about to ask how you did it. scrolled down and voila! Nice work! Id like to have a guitar with a scallop in the upper register. Rand-o-monium is big on scalloped boards. At this point, I wouldnt want it on my main axe, but would like to have the option in the stable

Yeah, it is a little strange, and I notice that some people have trouble playing mine, especially if they have a heavy left hand. I did an article about the 'feel' of a scalloped neck, here.

Looks much better than the ones I've attempted!!!
:D

Nice job salvaging teh Sharkies,too!
