My gibson lp standards nickel hardware has tarnished really quickly...lots!

Not that it bothers me that much, but all the silver hardware on my new les paul standard, like the bridge and nickel covers of pickups, has all got this speckly tarnish crap all over it and doesnt come off when wiped. Its rough too.

Is this normal?

That doesn't sound normal. The only thing I can think is that either you have really acidic sweat, or maybe the environment you live in is causing this. I see you live in Australia, are you close to the ocean? I've had a Les Paul for years, and is hasn't tarnished. Actually I kind of wish it would.

I dont live near the ocean and ive been keeping my les paul in its case anyway unless i play it.

It does look kinda cool tarnished a little, looks a bit more older i guess, prefer it to shining new

Do you still have the silica packet in the case somewhere? That'll accelerate the tarnishing. Nickel tends to tarnish pretty easily but it wears well.

It happens. Nickel hardware tarnishes a lot more than chrome hardware does

I'm the opposite, I can't stand shiny stuff. I only buy aged pickup covers or age them my self. shiny hardware has always looked cheap to me...

I dont like shiny hardware either and am kinda glad that they are aging so quickly, but i just wanted to see if its normal. Im gonna swap em out for open black coils anyway

I can actually get it off if i wipe really hard with my thumbnail behind the rag, its as if its really tough sweat or something...i didnt know sweat was that hard to get off???

well, sounds like it's oxidising(sp?) really fast. can happen and nickel does tarnish pretty fast
