Re: My Guitars & Amps
Meh. I'll keep buying 'em till I find one I like.
Do you like Marshalls?

Thanks Jeff. The Strat is a 1990 MIJ '62 Reissue. I bought it new in '91, which is probably why you don't recall! At the time I had been without an electric guitar for five years - thought I'd grown out of it! It was then my only electric for 6 years until I bought the cherry sunburst LP Std in '97.
I love that 2104 combo. I had one I bought new in 1980 and sold a few years later when I thought I needed a clean channel and reverb. Regretted that sale for years so I bought this one (also a 1980) on eBay in '07.
...and yours would be the last year for the MV JMPs, right? What speakers came in yours?
Awesome collection, dude. I love how you have all your bases covered. Personally, I'd probably have two Teles instead of two Les Pauls but, other than that small matter of taste, I can't find a fault there. The only thing missing is a nice semi-hollow or something.
I really, really love that darker Les Paul that's sitting next to the Tele.
Congrats, man. :beerchug:
Although, all of this just begs the question...What's next?![]()
Yeah, '81 was the first year of JCM800s, when the Rose Morris contract expired. I think there may still have been some MV JMPs made that year but that was the transition year. I worked in a music shop that sold Marshalls. I left that job in July '81 and as far as I remember we were still selling JMPs, though they were probably old stock.
The speakers are G12-65s (this combo and my original one).
What's next? Well, as you pointed out, a nice semi-hollow. And something with P-90s. And I have constant gas for a 70s LP Deluxe because I severely regret selling my old goldtop. And, as you also pointed out, another Tele wouldn't go amiss. After that, a divorce probably. :scratchch
Ohh...how do 65s sound in the open back?
Lovely collection. I had the same Marshall combo for a while and it sounded great but needed to be cranked a bit too much for most of the gigs I was playing at the time. The Cornford Roadhouse I use now reminds me of my old combo but delivers the goods at more manageable levels. If I was playing bigger gigs on a regular basis that Marshall is the amp I'd like to get hold of. Apart from the little Studio 15 that was the last really good Marshall I had. I had a Jubilee combo for a while - I liked it but didn't quite bond with it for some reason.
Thanks Richard. I've never played a Cornford though I've heard great things about them - mainly from you and Don! I was considering an MK50 a while back but there didn't seem to be any dealers with stock, and not much online info or support. Did you say the company is in trouble?
I know what you mean about the Jubilee. I go hot and cold with it. It is capable of really great tones but I think it was designed with the 80s rock player in mind and I am more of a 70s rock player! It has a sound all of its own - kind of twisted Marshall. Having said that, I rehearsed with it last night and it was sounding excellent (rhythm clip mode for rhythm, switching to lead for solos). You hardly ever see the rhythm clip mode mentioned in online Jubilee discussions but I think it's one of the amp's great assets - a nice medium-gain tone. Think I'll be gigging the Jube on Saturday.
