My homemade Les Paul Mini

It's not duncan equipped, but still wanted to share. My father built for me a travel sized LP, all mahogany, full scale neck with dimarzio 36th pafs. Here's a couple of pix and a clip I recorded yesterday. I'm playing through a Mark IIc+ preamp clone I built. Will add more clips soon. For details visit http://diy-fever.com/guitars/mini-les-paul/

Very, very cool. Looks a lot like a baritone uke.

Did he build the neck from scratch?

Re: My homemade Les Paul Mini

yeah, everything's built from scratch. The neck is 60's thinner profile, oil finished and super comfortable.
tnx

Re: My homemade Les Paul Mini

^^ What he said; oil finish is the bomb. Full scale is the only way to go, really - short scale feels ¢rap.

Now you gotta play this song ;).

Re: My homemade Les Paul Mini

yeah, full scale was a top priority. Those peewee epis look cute but that short scale is crappy to play and tune.
I thought about sacrificing the headstock for smaller size, but it would make it more complicated to mount the tuners on the body and would look ugly as hell :)
Cheers

That's a neat piece of work. It just needs one of those ebony rests they use on a violin so you can tuck it under your chin in comfort.

Re: My homemade Les Paul Mini

Your dad is the MAN.

That looks fantastic - I take it he's a luthier?

thanks all, appreciate it :friday:.

Yes, he builds and repairs guitars for living. Here's another one we (well, mostly him :)) built for me few years ago

That is awesome!!!! Looks like a mini Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded Brown.

yeah, that was the goal :) It's a cheapest finish to do and looks cool (not to my girlfriend though, she thinks it looks like a piece of old furniture)

Re: My homemade Les Paul Mini

+1 That is a righteous little guy (the scale of the pickups really tells the story).
Between this and the 'Scattervarius" I'm destined to start a guitar project today....

"Scatter Lee", is your Dad?! I've been in awe, of his work, for quite some time now. He's a very talented luthier, to say the least!

Re: My homemade Les Paul Mini

whatsinaname, I was comparing the two from the inspiration aspect - bancika would have to say outright that he and scatter lee are related; if that was inferred it wasn't meant to be.
