DROOL!! Holy crap this thing did a HUGE sound improvment over my Epi stock pickups, I couldn't believe it! It's such a smooth creamy but biting distortion sound, yummy. My gear has drastically changed the last 2 weeks from a solid state Peavey and a Metal Master pedal and stock Epi to an all tube Crate Blue Voodoo and NO PEDALS!! Simply a chorus and wah and lemme tell ya, the JB sings on the gain channel. Notes don't stick out and full chords actually sound good, yummy:) Thanks a lot guys, I would have gone another way like dimarzio or just left my LP stock had you guys not told me about the JB! :thanks: :bigok: :usa: :7: :bye:

Re: My JB

I hear what you guys are sayin'! I don't know why the JB gets such a bad rap in this forum. It seems like everytime I read something about the JB, it's always about how shrill or high-pitched the tone is. IMO, if a user has his/her guitar set-up properly, has the pickup height correct (mine's as close to the strings as I can get 'em....I use JB's in 2 axes), and uses good CTS pots with .022pf caps, and good strings the JB is really a great humbucker. I hear smooth and distinct tones out of mine, but nothing out of bounds as far as highs go. I use the Jazz in the neck of each of those axes (Schecter and Gibson LP), and I think they sound excellent together or separate.
Having said that, I'm sure someone will chime in on this thread once again slamming the pup for it's tone....but as I said before, it's all about setting everything up correctly around the pickup that plays just as an important part as the JB itself.
I'd like to hear what it sounds like in an Alder Strat body and rosewood neck. It probably screams!
Just my $.02

Re: My JB

A Jazz & JB or 59N & JB upgrade in an Epi Les Paul is a thing of beauty! Those pickups seem to really shine in those guitars. I've done two and the results were steller in both Epis. One, an Epi Les Paul Custom, sounded so good with the Jazz & JB combo that I had a hard time not hearing it as sounding better than my '59 LP Historic with Tom Holmes humbuckers! Congrats! Lew

Re: My JB

Right on, Lew! I can't see how anybody could go wrong with the JB/Jazz combination of pickups in a Les Paul. Tone for days!!

Tone for days... That would be a CC and aph. Though the JB is a huge improvement over stock pickups though.

Re: My JB

Count me as one who hears the JB as WARMER than most other pickups mentioned on this forum. I'm talking, in the mix of a band.

I never thought it got a bad rap here. It shouldn't. It's the pickup that made this forum possible.

Sh!t, it's the pickup that made all the OTHER pickup companies possible as well. :D

Re: My JB

I have a JB in my schecter Mahogony back/neck flame maple Top 006. Too bright? Hell no!

People who complain the JB is too bright should listen to Jerry Cantrell. JB in a G&L Rampage (I'm assuming Alder or Ash body) with a Maple neck and Ebony Fingerboard.
