My Jet City JCA20H head arrived today.

Re: My Jet City JCA20H head arrived today.

the digital effects are one thing but the drive channel uses a transistor preamp section.. There's one 12ax7 for the normal channel and 1 12ax for a PI.

It's not necessarily a bad thing (I haven't played this amp) but I could see where that would turn some people off.

If it's anything like the SCXD's amp voicings it might turn me off. The tone wasn't bad at all but the feel was verry stiff.

The 12AX7 not used as a PI is actually in a tube distortion circuit for the drive channel, so even though they use SS preamp, you still get to drive real tubes for the grind.

And, having a ss preamp eliminates almost all tube rattle you'd encounter.

A news article I read about the amp stated "Amp features include two 6L6 power tubes and two 12AX7 preamp tubes (one for preamp distortion, one for phase inversion);", and so that's what I was going off of.

to me now it seems like one of the 12ax7's IS a PI, but tis used on the SS normal channel and the drive channel uses the other one.

It's probably one ss preamp for both channels, and one PI tube that does both, and the other tube is just for drive channel gain.

Pretty nice sounding amps. I'd use it the same way as i would the Jet City...crank the master and get crunch from the gain knob...hit it with a pedal for leads.

How does the bandmaster compare to the HRDx

Other than DFX and only two channels, they're pretty similar. The drive channel on the BM has a bit more grind available than the first drive channel of the HRDx.

I'd like to play one but haven't found one. Whenever I finally get around to buying an american voiced 40W or more amp, I'm gonna have to throw that one on the list.
I actually kind of liked the HRDx's drive channel, In fact I copped some pretty decent sound with my LP into one of the python skin ones. Love that reverb, too.

Just scored one yesterday, should have it next weekend, got to wait for it to clear Pawn/Trade-In waivers. Loved it, could not get a bad sound out of it.
