My Les Paul Goldtop is Finished!

Re: My Les Paul Goldtop is Finished!

I bet it sounds pretty good. Probably gets a lot of the vibe of a real '57!

More like a '56 with the p90s and tune-o-matic but yeah, it has a very vintage vibe to the sound. The Antiquities are very special pickups.

The bridge pickup has a SWD Custom Shop label on the baseplate, none of my other Ants have that. I know that you can get CS Antiquities but I just ordered a regular one. Anyone else get an Ant with that sticker? I can upload a pic tomorrow if it helps.

Re: My Les Paul Goldtop is Finished!

I've heard a lot of good things about the Antiquity pick-ups. P90's are awesome pick-ups. I find they have more of a raunchy growl compared to humbuckers. Especially P90's in a Les Paul is great sound!

That's great. I almost got one of those last year, but I decided to go with my G&L instead. As I remember, they have the clipping jack, the Nashville bridge, and they are chambered, but they are otherwise pretty close looking repros of the earliest Deluxes. Looks like they have the modern circuit board electronics too. (Does it have the fat binding inside the cutaway, or does the binding stay the same height all the way around?) I actually like Deluxes, so I would have left the mini humbuckers, but I ain't gonna argue with P90's, ever, especially Antiquities. That is a sweet guitar any way you slice it.

What's the black strip on the bottom rear of the bridge pickup?

The binding is the same around the whole body. It doesn't have any of the Norlin Deluxe features, which I like. Really all that made it a Deluxe was the pickup configuration. I like Deluxes as well, but made one of my others into a Deluxe. See my other thread.
It did have the PCB, but as you can see, that is long gone now!

That strip at the bottom of the bridge pup is where the cover ends. These Antiquity P90s are modeled after the 52-54 soapbars and retain the dimensions of those. They are shallower and wider than current Gibson P90s. The covers are deeper at the pickup ends, and shallower along the length of them. Those dimensions were used on early trapeze and combination tailpieces prior to the often taller TOM types.

Here is a picture showing the Custom Shop label on the bridge pup that I was asking about:

I think one of my soapbars has that orange label. Don't recall offhand and it's in a guitar.

Re: My Les Paul Goldtop is Finished!

My fav guitar of all time is a LP goldtop with soapbar P-90s. And man, you got it goin' on.

Gorgeous!!

Very nice looking Les Paul. How do you like the Ants? I'm seriously considering a set for for my 60s Tribute.

Re: My Les Paul Goldtop is Finished!

SFW, the Ants are fantastic. They offer so much clarity and they ooze vintage tones. The neck is full and warm sounding while the bridge is punchy and has some bite to it.

I have been thoroughly impressed by them. I have Antiquity humbuckers in another LP and they are by far the best PAF types I have tried. They even beat the boutique stuff that I have had.
