I keep seeing Krank stuff on here, and it occurred to me I have a little story about Krank that people might be interested in. Perhaps it's common knowledge...
When I came to Phoenix, AZ about 7 years ago, I was in a band that ended up in a studio in Mesa, AZ. They had a really tiny head with a Krank logo on it in their studio. The engineer was going nuts over it, and told me to play through it. I was pretty much floored, and used it for the recording instead of my Marshall JCM800. I asked the engineer for the guy's number and called him up following our studio work.
A nice guy answered and said he specialized in modding old Sovtek heads (at least that's the brand I recall him saying). They may have been the midgets because they are small like the little Krank I had seen. At that time, he was selling the modded amps for about $450-$500. I should have bought one, but I didn't.
A few years later, Krank begins making their own line of course, and now I see many Marshalls being replaced by Kranks and they've really taken off. Now, I can't afford a Krank at all, but it was kind of neat to see the evolution. I've since emailed him about a modded midget, but he doesn't do them anymore. :smack:
