This is my brand new Matchless Lightning. An expensive amp, but it has a nice clean and crunchy sound. What do you think of it? Any replies will be warmly welcome. Cheers!

I've always been a big fan of Matchless amps and Atkins style pickin.

One of my main amps is a 97 Chieftain 212 combo. I used to have a different Chieftain and also a DC-30.

I mostly use it for a clean or pushed clean tone, but discovered that it's a better platform for OD pedals than I'd originally thought. I just bought one of those MXR Classic OD's for $29 at GC last weekend, and it blends amazingly well with the Matchless.

One of the coolest amp reviews I've seen yet! Great playing! This was thoroughly enjoyable.

Nice, and neat little chording too. You think you can do another vid rocking that amp out with some lead guitar? I would like to see how it sounds gained out.

EL-84 amps are the bomb with teles!

great pickin'

Re: My Matchless Lightning (short video)

In my last post, I focused too much on the amp, and not the skill required to get the thumb moving like you have. I'm a competent chicken picker, but need more Atkins thumb action. Gaining that independence between the thumb pedaling two notes, and fingers providing the melody is damm difficult, so you've got my props for that!

I was practicing some of it tonight, and almost wish I could find a local Chet Atkins style teacher to sit down with.....or buy a good DVD on the subject. Where did you learn it?
