My very first tube amp was a 1973 Princeton Reverb. My buddy had it at his house for years. His dad bought it at a pawn shop way back when. I started hearing all this hype about tubes and noticed one day that Darren's old Fender in the corner had tubes.

I traded him a Dunlop wah for it. That amp was a turd and I traded just to watch the tubes glow. The trem didn't work, it had no reverb, it had a Radio Shack 12" and it was missing both back panels, it hissed, cracked, popped and squealed and was unusable. Don't forget though, it had TUBES!!!! LOL!! A few years passed and I started researching it and found out what it was. I put it on eBay and described it to a T and to my surprise the thing sold for $405 in the shape it was in.

Here is a picture of it I took when I was 16 or so...

EDIT: My second tube amp ever is also in this picture too. It was a Crate VC!! LOL!!!

Put the 8s in it!!!

Christian keeps saying that too. I just don't know if I want to do that. One thing I love about Fender amps is the kick you get from the right speakers.

It's a win win scenario. You put 2 8 ohm speakers in it for your 4 ohm load on board. Then you get your 2 8 ohm 12s or 10s or whatever. if you want you can even run both!!!!

If I did that I guess it would be cool. I have no immediate plans for that, but maybe in the future. I would for sure cut a new baffle and keep the original unharmed.

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

I have one of these amps ('68 model). The best clean tone there is, IMO. I'd like to get a second one for stereo...they do tend to go pretty cheap on the bay. I guess alot of folks are biased; maybe not so much against the SF, but in favor of the Tweeds, BF, Brownface. Once you play one, though, you can't deny that they sound great (if you like Fender tone to start with, of course).

I noticed you have chubtones in one of your strats. Do you have any clips, because I would like to hear what they sound like and learn more about those bad boys.

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

Man I've *still* got one of those Crate VC amps! It's a backup for my sister right now. It's actually a really killer little amp!

LOL!! There you are!! The 8"s are really starting to seem like a cool idea, but I just don't know yet.

Im tellin ya don't do it...you just can't handle it.

Howevr, if I were to have one of those ugly bastards it would only be too be able to drop 2 8's in it...I really miss my 2x8 Bandmaster Reverb!

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

Grab a repro cab from Mojo & have them cut the baffle in.....grab the Weber 8s, remount the chassis & rock out with the original put away in the closet for safe keeping.

What are you doing at home this time of day? Don't you have anything more important to do than call my new baby ugly?

That would be a custom cab from MOJO and would cost more than the entire amp...plus like I said...Greg can't handle it!

Im home due to issues with some dumb asses downtown, and no I have nothing better to do...and I don't care what you say...they are ugly

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

Picture in my mind Jack Nicholson "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE 8'S!!!"

Nice.

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

are you guys talking about putting speakers in the headcab?

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

Yeah...I used to have a Bandmaster Reverb that I borrowed long term from a guy I knew...it was just like the one Greg has now and he had put 2 8's in the head cab, it's not anything amazing and it really doesn't have the type of tone you'd want to take to a gig or anything but it's pretty neat and makes the head more useable as you can take just the head to a small jam or pracitce setting, the biggest advantage is that if you put 2 8's in the head you then have a reason for the goofy thing being over a foot tall! Either way the point is that Greg can't handle the 8's!

You know why the Bandmaster Reverb and Showman Reverb are so tall? If the reverb springs are to close the transformers you get alot of hum. So they made the cab tall to get the springs away from the transformers. Lew
