He does want one but he is going for a Tweed Deluxe from Scott.
Im actually suposed to meet up with Greg today and hit a few guitar shops and let him check out the Super.

i love my esquire thru my tweed dlx. the dlx isnt overly bright and smooths out the sometimes spikey treble and the esquire doesnt have enough bottom to fart out the low end of the 5e3. great match.

But seriously, folks. I have alwasys had the impression that the Esquire was made to a price point....as all of the Fenders were back then......fine music for the masses, as it were. I was just wondering if the "less is more" purity vibe could be had with a 50's type Tele RI with modern wiring set up so that you could still have a bit more versatility. Jeremy said tht he likes the Esquire with his Deluxe becausew it deosn't have enough bass to fart out the amp. Would that apply with the tele if you just used the bridge position? My modded Mexi-tele doesn't have the real harsh treble.....i'm not sure if this is a result of the wood or the RS electronics. The guitar is EXTREMELY light weight.....I don't know what the wood is, but probably poplar. But i rarely use the neck PUP. The Broadcaster sounds that smooth.

An Esquire is simply a 1 pickup Tele...the bridge position on a Tele sounds a LOT like an Esquire...
The thread was about Teeds and tweed Fenders tend to make odd noises and fart out with buckers...not the case at all with single coils.

I'm totally diggin the tweed idea...I went through that phase myself...now I'm on a vibe kick..I want amps with vibe..my super reverb has vibe..my celtic edanabreaker (as I've nicknamed it) will have vibe

I agree that teles and tweeds are great mates, and I've said so recently.
as jeremy said, the tweed amps smooth out the tone. they also lend body and sustain, and are just more fun to play through, IMO.
early teles were all over the map as far as pickup and other specs, but The Fender Telecaster book says that some were real screamers.
and, yes, any of the vintage type bridge pickups - Broadcaster, JD, Antiquities - should get you there. Antiquities aren't too high output, but not potting gives them bite.

Neck humbuckers will fart out a variety of old style amps. I play my R9 pretty much exclusively on the bridge position with the 18w. The Deluxe isn't quite so sensitve. Oddly enough, the Tele behaves more like the R9 through the 18w The Strat works great set on the bridge or either of the notch positions through the 18w. Obviously, you can (and arguably need to) crank the amp volume a lot higher with the Fenders.
