I agree that teles and tweeds are great mates, and I've said so recently.
as jeremy said, the tweed amps smooth out the tone. they also lend body and sustain, and are just more fun to play through, IMO.
early teles were all over the map as far as pickup and other specs, but The Fender Telecaster book says that some were real screamers.
and, yes, any of the vintage type bridge pickups - Broadcaster, JD, Antiquities - should get you there. Antiquities aren't too high output, but not potting gives them bite.
teles probably sound good through any tweed amp, but the Deluxe does seem just right
