Hahaha.... I hear you on that. I had a few EL84 amps (a Vox AC15H1TV, a Fargen Epic 30DC, a Bad Cat Hot Cat 30 and a Crate V32 Palomino) and I liked them, but I never loved them. They're great for that slight clipping thing, but over time I felt they were a bit abrasive on the highend. Marshalls have a smoother, fatter tone to them (due to EL-34 tubes) and the "American" sound categorized by folks like Fender really make for a bright, but smoother and more balanced sound.
El84s are like those annoying short guys in life who have a big attitude and overcompensate![]()
