My new LP Custom has arrived!

Re: My new LP Custom has arrived!

Sweet. I had a friend back in high school that had one and always thought the silver burst was a great finish.

Here's hoping ya don't get bored and sell it in a few months!

I'd REALLY need to be in need of quick money for me to sell her. She's a dream and hope to have her for a lifetime.

I hear ya. That's how I am with my BC Riches (except my hard tail Bich). I would need to be on the verge of homelessness to sell either of my other two.

Congrats.

Re: My new LP Custom has arrived!

Congratulations, it looks awesome. And obviously it is a player from your review. Funny though that you reviewed the 490R - 498T set. I just updated them in my Studio (my apologies oh lord, not to play in the same ball park :biglaugh: ). I have just tried the new config for an hour or so but it seems the 490R gains a fair bit of clarity with an A5 mag. I can get the gain quite high up and still be able to use it. Which I couldn't do before, as you found out yourself. The 498T seemed slightly undefined under higher gain, and again, the swap for a ceramic mag seems to have improved things a bit. I need to play it some more and then I'll probably throuw a wee review.

Re: My new LP Custom has arrived!

think you could post a close-up of the control cavity? just curious to see how it compares to my lp studio. :)

Re: My new LP Custom has arrived!

Man that thing is gorgeous. the burst on the back, neck, and headstock really makes it a beauty. Personally, I'd probably put a Custom/Jazz B in neck.

As for the fretboard.....go buy some ebony/black stain at the hardware store.
Guitar companies do this all the time to get a uniform dark look. I don't think it'd soak into the pearl inlays, but I'd err on the side of caution. I'd probably use Q Tips to carefully paint the fretboard one fret at a time, let it soak in, then wipe if off, away from the inlays. You also don't want any to stain the binding, so be extremely careful. Before you start, you may want to wipe the fretboard with rubbing alcohol to strip off all oils, so the stain soaks in nicely.

Thanks for the advice! Just surprised to find the ebony not completely smooth like my other guitars. And that whitish stuff is driving me nuts! What's that about!? It's a brand new guitar from the Custom Shop! And thanks for the comments about the finish - it sure is a beaut!

Re: My new LP Custom has arrived!

Oh wow ... I'm not much of a Gibson fan, but that is a fiiiiiiiine guitar! The finish looks incredible. Nice score!

I have a C5/A2P in my Warmoth LP with an ebony fretboard, and I'm really pleased with those choices. Whatever you do, get the nickel covers! Keep it shiny!

Do chrome covers have a more difficult time staying shiney?

I don't think there's really a difference in that respect, but SD's have nickel covers, not chrome, so that's what you'll wind up with I assume.

I mainly meant don't go for open coil humbuckers.

Oh ok.

Anyone else have any ideas about fixing that fingerboard issue besides dying it? Maybe I should have left the conditioner on longer?

Re: My new LP Custom has arrived!

Ebony often has streaks of lighter colors in it. That is common to ebony. I don't know if that is exactly what you are describing. To counter this and make it uniform in color, ebony boards are often stained. If it is just a cosmetic thing, consider it character. Ebony is not always uniformly black. If you think it is more than a cosmetic issue, and that you received an inferior piece of ebony, then I don't know what to say.

That is a really sweet looking guitar. Congrats.
