my pedal g.a.s.

here's my list of pedals i'm g.a.ssing for...suggest your faves in these categories too and why you dig em!? i'm also trying to keep costs down as usual and wanting used where i can?! the old RP-1 is ok for the moment but there's only a couple sounds on it that i can tolerate at all...i really only use it for the chorus & delay type stuff...all the other stuff is pretty sterile.

these pedals are really all i would ever use (i play mostly pop/rock)...being something chunky/heavy, something smooth, something dirty, a bit of chorus/delay, a wah, a compressor, every once and again a flange (probably the least)?!

Distortion - i'm still digging my Tech 21 Tri-od's "calif" amp modeler setting for my distortion, and the "tweed" for the slightly dirty stuff...suggest something else i might like...maybe a Mesa V-twin (although it's huge)?

OD - i'm hearing awesome things about the Barber Small Fry and the elusive Tim pedal

Chorus/delay - i think the VS H2O would be good here (prolly my next purchase actually)

Comp - MXR dyna

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

also, i don't know diddly squat about the powered boards and how to set this stuff up (as in the chain) or any of that really, so advice would be appreciated! i mean i have a general idea but i'm a complete novice when it comes to pedals!

all i know is certain sounds i like and that an "all-in-one" box doesn't cut the mustard to my ears so i'm gonna put the stuff i want together piece by agonizing piece....lol!

thank,
mike

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

The DynaComp is a really :cool3: pedal, Mike. I don't think you would be disappointed. Scott Bernard talked me OUT of buying a distortion pedal and into buying that one. I've never regretted it. I still use it IN FRONT of my POD.

I once built an effects board/box, and powered it with a Radio Shack ac adapter and Ibanez Y cables. It was kind of heavy, though.

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

I've found that I can be fairly happy with most modulation FX, regardless of price, but not with OD's.......they've gotta be great, or I just sell'em.
I'm very satisfied with the L6 green and blue modelers, and think that the blue modulation box is a good 'go to' FX pedal that does everything. Just get a wah, expensive high quality OD like the Barber, Tim, OCD, etc, a good tuner, and then something like the Line 6 modulator.

The easy part is figuring out what you want. The hard part is shelling out the big bucks for this stuff. It adds up quick.

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

that's kinda what i was thinking...hence the barber and tim...:fingersx: of course i'm not real sure what the H20 and the MXR run used, but i was thinking they weren't to bad...now the strobo is kinda high, but everyone says it's the bomb diggity! i saw a small fry on tgp for like $125...that seems crazy, but i know they go for more new...and the tim...well its up there too, but really when you look at the price of some pedals...that's not all that bad.

i think the H20 will be my first buy...it should go good with my tri-od...and then i'll probably pick up a dynacomp...depending on how all that sounds i'll probably go with either a barber or the wah...:fingersx: ...a little at a time, that's all i can do anyways.

i also hear good things about that "tubulator" and it's waaay cheap, and i also hear about the "bad monkey"...the tubulator is almost tooo cheap not to at least try...but like i said, i really dig the tri-od too, so i'll probably go with another od down the road?

For power, Voodoo Lab Pedal Power II, that's all you need to know, it's worth every penny. Don't hesitate to shell out the cash for the Strobostomp, I have one and it's fantastic. You can't go wrong with Barber, I would strongly suggest looking into the Barber Tone Press Compressor, I have it and I love it. As for the board itself, Pedaltrain all the way.

Cheers,

CJ

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

Hey there. First poster here. With regards to the Wah. I would highly recommend you get the Vox V-847 and mod it for True Bypass. That's what I've used for a long time, and I went and tried the 848 because it was already true bypass, and had the special inductor, etc. However, I found it didn't sound nearly as good as the 847. The 847 just seemed a lot more vocally. Now, with that being said, I've heard that the Budda Bud Wah is sensational, and around the same price as the 848.

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

The only pedal I have GAS for is the H&K Rotosphere

....but they're big & pricey, new or used, so.....:dunno:

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

I had a Tri-OD when they 1st came out. I can't remember Exactly what about it i didn't like? I'm thinking it was a pain to toggle between the channels? I hear many good things about the Bad Monkey (probably my next GAS Acquisition):27:

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

yeah the toggle is my ONLY complaint about it...i use the tweed and california setting on the pedal and i turn off the british setting...however when i switch from the california back to the tweed (regardless of the british being turned off) i have to toggle twice to get there :smack: ...but i absolutely love both settings...the tweed setting just makes my cleans so FAT and full and the calif setting has the thick od that i really like the best! the great thing about the pedal is that each channel has it's own little volume and drive knob, so when i switch from my full clean sounds to my overdrive it's an automatic boost as i have the volume and drive up just a couple notches from the tweed channel...if they made a pedal with those two channels exclusively and a toggle for each of them and a eq for each one...it would be the perfect pedal!

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

cut out the MESA and replace it with the TWIN TUBE CLASSIC
from what i've heard it is MUCH beta

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

has anyone played the Tri-Ac? from what i've read, it supposedly isn't that great "in front" of an amp...of course i've read that about the Tri-Od too :smack: :fingersx: , but i was curious how good it did sound? if it's tweed and calif settings sound like the tri-od then i'm sold for sure!?

Re: my pedal g.a.s.

Pedaltrains are killer, though I'd personally recommend a OneSpot adapter and a daisy chain cable over one of the DC brick type units. Same effect, smaller price tag, and if you happen to have a Boss TU-2 tuner you're all set (assuming you keep your board under I think 8 pedals total?) As far as ODs, I swear by the Hermida Zendrive and Mosferatu, I WILL own those pedals again someday when money isn't quite so tight.

I agree. I have heard such good things about it. I wanna try one.
