My Personal Esquire Replica(pic intensive)

Re: My Personal Esquire Replica(pic intensive)

Erik's right. The earliest Esquires were pine so I happened upon a builder that could make me a vintage spec pine body but in full thickness(the pine prototypes were 1 1/2" thick). Sicne the graining was so nice I was able to do a butterscotch blonde(even though the protos were black nitro).

I'd rather not go into prices on here, but it took about 3 months from start to finish once I started gathering pieces and such.

I once held Jeff Becks Esquire.... One of them anyways.... story is he had 3 tele/esquires in the yardbirds..... Duncan has the famous one and the one i held was at the London Hard Rock in the UK..... anyways the 51 Esquire i did hold in my hands had a hell of a lot of hand tool marks.... The neck pocket was sloppy... the neck felt like a rounded over 2x4..... I wonder if that guitar was pine..... i have photos of it but can't post them

No, only the very early prototypes were pine. Jeff's was ash. The blonde Tele that was his in the Yardbirds eventually became Jimmy Page's Dragon and then he also had a regular early 50's Tele too.
