Re: my porters are on the way
Well I got the yesterday and installed them. Here is a short review.
Overdrive (bridge) 13.2k a8
like all a8 pups it has a big but tight bass response without getting too stiff or sterile. Where it differed from other a8 pups I have tried the midrange while very full had more of a crunch than a roar. Even a bit of grind. The highs were also very present and cutting but never harsh or fizzy. I would say they were rolled off either. I would say the output of this pickup was medium. Just a little hotter than the demon (sh-12). The pup has a lot of character and sound and does amazing for mid gain classic rock and 80's metal. But crank the gain and it just laughs. Its like it has a split personality. While thick pickup is very versatile and lower output than must metal pups it is by no means tame or nice sounding when the gain is turned up. Gives a distortion with a deep chug and overlying crunch on top. This pickup handles low tunings with ease and is very articulate.
Clear (neck) 9.3k ceramic
This pup to me reminds me of a hotter Duncan jazz with a dash of Texas bluesy bite. Tight lowend slight mids scoop in the lower mids and articulate highs. Amazing clean tones and great shred tones. What really impressed me was its overdriven blues tones. Very gibbons like. (yes it is a ceramic) this pup balances great with the bridge.
Overall this is a versitile medium output pickup set that covers a lot of ground in the rock/metal category.
Guitar used was a Ibanez rgd2127z 7 string
