MY PRS guitars...

I have two USA made Custom 22's and three SE Singlecuts that I paid $300 each for.

Loving those SE's...for $300 used they can't be beat. They always need new pickups, a set up and a fret polish. But after that they are wonderful playing, wonderful sounding guitars.

Here's a photo: IMG_1088.JPG

The one closest to the camera is my latest. I put a set of Seth Lovers with raw nickel covers in it.

The blue CU22 has Antiquitys.

The Gretsch orange CU22 has 59's.

The sunburst has double cream Seth Lovers.

The black Singlecut on the end has nickel covered PG's.

Every one sounds a little different.

Just wanted to share I guess.

Cool! You've owned nearly every guitar and amp under the sun over your career, the fact that you've ended up with these speaks volumes for PRS and Duncan.

Re: MY PRS guitars...

I love my PRS Se245 and Se Santana. I had one of the 2-control Singlecuts before, but sold it when the Se245 came out. Kinda wish I still had it. Some pickup sets that I really like in them: Seth Lover set, 59 set, Air Zone/Paf Pro, Super Distortion/Super2, Gibson 498t/490r. The full shred neck sounds great in one too, but I can never find a bridge I like with it.

Re: MY PRS guitars...

I used to LOVE the feel of my prs paul's guitar. Sounded really nice clean but hated it with any dirt. Couldn't replace the pups because of their funny shapes, so i decided to sell it. I miss seeing it in my collection, but stand by my decision.

Re: MY PRS guitars...

I really like the double cut Mcarty shape and the wrap around stoptails. I've seen a few SEs for sale lately and really should get one already.
Do they make a double cut SE model? I always only see the LP shaped ones for sale.
Oh, and is that a Tremonti on the end?

Nope. No Tremonti.

The two double cutaway guitars are a '95 Custom 22 and a '02 Custom 22.

The other three are '07 SE Singlecuts.

When I try the SE's in Guitar Center, they're always in need of a professional set up. The action is always too high, the neck always has too much relief, nut slots are not deep enough, the intonation is off and the pickups aren't adjusted correctly.

I think that's why they leave a bad impression on some people.

But that's nothing to me. It takes about an hour and I've got them all playing great.

Then there's the SE pickups. The original Korean pickups are very bright and sharp sounding. You can make them pretty good by replacing the little T-Top style alnico magnet they come with with a full size one like Duncan uses. A2 in the neck and UOA5 or RCA5 in the bridge sounds much, much better.

But the last SE Singlecut I got is the sunburst closest to the camera. I didn't even plug it in first before taking it apart. I just unpacked it and removed the pickups and put a set of Seth Lovers I had removed the shiny covers from and installed raw nickel covers on instead.

Re: MY PRS guitars...

I have an SE One with an Antiquity P90 in it, sounds fantastic and scratches the minimal P90 itch that I have.

Re: MY PRS guitars...

Great photo...thanks for sharing.
Assuming we have prs lovers on this thread, I have a near mint ce24 that needs a new home. Shoot me a massage if you are interested.

Re: MY PRS guitars...

I like the Santana SE, keep seeing them used for $350 or so. Might grab one at some point

Re: MY PRS guitars...

Thank you my friend. I lost a lot of guitars 8 years ago but I couldn't be happier with what I replaced them with.

Yeah, these last years have been quite a rollercoaster for you. Glad that you're in a good place now!

Re: MY PRS guitars...

If I could ever find a PRS for $300, I'd snap it up, too. The ones I've played have been wonderful (across all price points).

They say that "change" is only good when changing for the better, I'm happy for you that it went the good way!
I sold a couple guitars in the past that I still regret selling, it's somewhat a sour experience. I guess I'll be missing those for ever!
Nice collection by the way Lew! :fing2:

Re: MY PRS guitars...

And what about string spacing? I think I remember PRS as having a wider than usual spacing (?) The last time I played one I recall having a hard time with that.

I really think the issue with PRS is that they all need a good set up.

So does every Gibson I've ever played. None are good to go right out of the box.

But especially with the PRS SE models, it seems that PRS is counting on the dealer or buyer to complete the set up process.

So like I said, every one of my guitars came with too much relief in the neck, which made for high action. So I bought a little wrench for straightening the neck a bit.

And every one needed the nut slots adjusted deeper. So I have a nice nut file set.

And every one needed a fret polish. So I do that.

And every one needed new pickups. So I do that.

Re: MY PRS guitars...

Nice squad, Lew! I agree - the SE line are some fantastic guitars once set up. I got a few myself.

Do it, man!

PRS SEs typically have Fender string spacing at the bridge.
