My Sg came today

pretty beat up- can live with that, but has a twisted neck. Moderate twist where the low string side is raised and the treble string side is flatter ( don't flatter me). D string buzzes, and for my style of low action, the twist oisn't conduscive to my playing style., Of course the guy denies there is a twist. Thats pretty much a given, he knows, I'd bet a dollars to donuts.

I wrote the guy and he doesnt want to do any compensation dollar-wise. I paid 800.00. It does have the Lollars which are 360.00 new, and it has the RS guitar works harness, which is 149.00 new , and also the original 498t's with the original harness.

Now, I could send it back, which would cost me about 65.00. Or I could install the 498t's, keep the Loallrs and RS harness, and sell the Sg on C-list for 550.00 I think w/o too much problem and keep the case also probably at that price( keep the case).

I do not want an\SG with a twisted neck, plus, like many older sg's like the 60's, this necks are wonky, and chords have a warbling almost out of tune sound.

I figured I'd ask, cause I have lost so many brain cells, I am a basket case, and cannot think for myself anymore, not that I was ever particularly smart to begin with.

Anyway, I would want a $75.00 compensation- I really do not want the guitar with the twist in the neck, but it doesn't look like the guy is going to make any price adjustment. A lot of work for not too much gain to dump the guitar on Craigslist and all that -maybe best just to eat shipping and send it back?

The Lollars and the guitar do sound great, its a playability issue.

Re: My Sg came today

The pickup/harness swap and craigslist flip looks like a good plan.

Re: My Sg came today

take it to a luthier so they can have a hard look at it and see what might be done to fix it.
Doesn't cost anything to have a look.

Re: My Sg came today

Yeah, maybe let it acclimate for a few days.

Always wondered about compensating a neck with a "slight" issue by working the fretwire somewhat...

Re: My Sg came today

Seller has offered a 50 dollar resolution. Probably hard for him to understand, cause it it was a pretty good deal already really even with the twisted neck , but I didn't get what I paid for , so an adjustment was proper.. I'll flip the SG cheap with the 498's I think, and come out hopefully at least even.

Was he aware of the twist in the neck? ; I'm not sure- my guess is he was, but if he wasn't , he might be thinking I am trying to bilk him, which is sad, because that is not the case. Oh well, such is business sometimes.

Re: My Sg came today

Have any photos of the twist? I don't know if it's easy to see, but I'd love to get a visual look at it.

At least try some other strings and set her up yourself. You might be able to get it playable anyway. I have been jamming on one of my guitars that has a warped neck, I am going to replace it but if it was set in i would just deal with it.

Re: My Sg came today

^ It wouldn't show up on pics. When you sight down the neck it's apparent to see the low side of the first fret twisted higher in relation to the flat high side . As I said, the high strings are dead flat, and the low strings are raised with some relief. That twisted neck problem is not dependent on any bridge action or nut.

I could raise teh bridge and add relief to compensate, and I guess I will have too for the time being, although as I mentioned, I like the low action across the board.

One good thing though, is that if a neck has to be twisted, it is better to be twisted at the low side.

Too bad, it really does sound golden, well, except for the warbling out-of-tune sound when you strike a chord which happens on some sg's evidently.

Well, I'll play it till I sell it.

Have you ever wanted a dedicated slide guitar? This would be perfect for a Derek Trucks fan.

Ring-a-ding-ding! We haz a winner!

Where are you, and where did the guitar come from? What temperature variances has it gone through? What altitude shift has it experienced?

NEVER trust a guitar neck the day it arrives. Don't tweak it, either, unless it was shipped with the rod completely slacked (which is about the dumbest thing you can do).

Chances are it will straighten out in a couple of days, as long as you haven't changed strings, string gauge, or adjusted the rod. Otherwise, after about 3 days, you're going to start over.
