My Squier can beat up your Squier...

It's a 1999 MIJ left handed Strat, I paid 80 dollars for it

I strung it up Jimi style, carved out the inside, ripped all the electronics out (the neck pickup is a dummy, a la EVH), wired a JB straight to the output and scraped off the "S" and "er" so it is now a "qui" (pronounced key) Strat

Then I took a sharpie and wrote "Destiny" on the pickgaurd...because I can

What makes it even cooler is I managed to set it up so it NEVER goes out of tune, no matter how hard you abuse the whammy bar, and if you go a little overboard on bending and a string goes pitchy, a quick dive of the tremolo and it is right back in tune...oh yeah, and it sounds kickass

But how does it never go out of tune?

It's a trick I have done on all of my previous Strats, it seems to work...

First ya lube the CRAP out of the nut, then tune the whole thing up to pich, and dive the bar as far down as it will go. Then just tune each string, each time diving the bar, after about 10 of the last step, the bar will stop having any effect on tuning.

If you do a really high bend, it will go slightly out of tune, but all you have to do is once again dive the bar, and it is back to normal.

I have no idea how it works, but it does....

Where the hell did you come up with that idea??? :haha:

i initially thought this thread's title an outrageous insult to the helecaster

but that strat looks like one bad mf.

Actually it's not as loony as it sounds.

He's essentially just stretching out the strings so they have less natural give. just a different way of doing the whole "boiling strings" thing, or what I do, as I'm winding new strings on the tuning pegs, I grab them about the 12th fret and pull up as i'm winding, to keep it under as much tension as I can while winding. End result - even without a locking trem, strings don't go too far out when doing whammy tricks.

Also, that guitar is pretty f'n badass. Good work oilpit!

Nice mods! Love the zebra bridge pickup hard-mounted - looks mean!

Although I have to argue that you still got nothin' on my Squier! :laugh2:

I knew when I saw the title of this thread that I would find Hunter in here somewhere. :D Talk about baiting the hook...

It'd be like that for me if someone posted "Whats all this bout P-nineties? I think they suck!!"

Re: My Squier can beat up your Squier...

Well it may beat these guy's Squires, but it can't keep up with my Epi SG's. :18:

Oilpit, I've got to admit that this was a really cool mod. And you got it for only $80?!!

Masn that has given me some good ideas. Thanks for sharing.

Only thing is, with the lefty you now have very limited access to the higher frets.

Ah, c'mon. I'll bet even Lurch would like it.

Aw, shucks. If you are going to "Jimi-ise" a Stratocaster, you have really got to use the neck PU - if only for "Little Wing". :biglaugh:
