My Strat on YouTube...again.

Re: My Strat on YouTube...again.

Hey, some guy on on HC says I'm playing with no feeling and with a ****ty tone.:blackeye:

I can accept the tone is below even my low standards, but do I really come across as a wanker with no feeling?

Re: My Strat on YouTube...again.

nice playing! My only critique would be to turn the gain down, and up the highs (maybe a bit more lows too).

As far as the "playing with no feeling" that usually means they think you're playing to fast. IF you want to "play with more feeling" I'd suggest some really long bends and some pauses here and there, but it's really all about how you feel and you apparently felt like ripping it up, And you did.:bigok:

Re: My Strat on YouTube...again.

Ok the trick with blues, and what's so hard...yeah your tone was a bit rough for blues...pull the gain down, adjust the tone...whatever, tone can be fixed...feeling is different.

You played it a bit more straight than the groove. You weren't quite "in the pocket" with the groove. It's a term that has a lot of contraversy around it. I thought there were some amazing moments in your playing, but the pocket just wasn't there for most of it. some great playing, just gotta fit it into the groove. You can play as fast as you want, just kinda keep it in the pocket....behind the beat just a little...it's hard to explain

First of all, I had no intention of playing "da blooze". I just felt like improvising over a backing. So if I was playing a Muddy Waters cover...which I wasn't, I'd probably play differently...all for the "blooze" crowd.

Now the groove bit...

there are one or two moments when I kinda hesitate and that's because I'm finding my way to the next idea, it's all first take, off the cuff impro, so it just can't be 100% perfect. I'd need to be gigging every night for at least a year to be able to pull that off. ;-)

On the other hand, could you point out were exactly you hear I was "out of the pocket"? I really want to know if it's were I think it is or I'm unaware of something.

But generally, yes, I was was just self indulgently blasting away over a backing, but I did put a lot of feeling into it.

Now what KIND of feelings ....that's another story.:firedevil

Help me work this one out guys. Thanks.:)

You played over a blues backing man, so no matter what you *wanted* to play, you were playing the blues. *shrug*

I GOT IT NOW!

That explains things...

But I was playing bluesy...at least the way I perceive it.:eek13:

I definately need to go back to making my own backings , so I'll avoid upsetting people.:grumble:
