My take on the Blackouts (7 string)

I was utterly taken over by the Blackouts when I first put them in, however the stock EMG's are now back in this guitar, as I've come to realise that I prefer them.

That's not to say I'm writing off the Blackouts, but you have to take your opinions subjectively with whatever guitar you're using, and for this particular guitar the EMG's just sit in the mix a hell of a lot better.

Anyway, this track and video were done with the Blackouts so you can hear for yourself!

A back to back comparison between the two would be helpful, but I liked the tone regardless!

I rescued a Schecter Hellraiser prototype from some EMG 707's a few years back, so I've been a fan of the Blackouts since then. Like you mentioned, there are many variables (including personal taste) that lead to the "right" pickup.

The Blackouts give a great tone if you compare the same string stroke 1:1.

However, the Blackout are way too insensitive to playing nuances. The sound they give between different intensities of play is too similar. So unless you shred with the same strokes all the time you'll lack "dynamics" or whatever word you'd like for it.

But for sure they give a "hello wach" when first played.
