My TB-16 59/Custom hybrid might be defective or different wiring that normal?

Hey all, I have a brand new 59/Custom hybrid. Mounted it, soldered it up restrung guitar. Something is wrong. Following standard wiring:

Red/White taped off
Bare/Green to ground
Black to hot

Very thin sounding, not much volume

So, I unsoldered everything and went direct to the jack, put bare/green to ground lug, black to the other lug... Same exact problem.

Are these to be wired up differently than normal humbuckers? Different than the install diagrams that come with the pup? Or does it sound like I have a bad pup?

Is there a way to test it with a meter? I have one but not very knowledgeable on how to use them.

Ummmmmm..... Nevermind. Operator error. Forgot to strip red and white, solder them together. :)

There was a similar thread started late last year that also included the phrase "taped together" rather than insulated. This immediately sets alarm bells ringing. Some guys seem to be interpreting the official wiring instructions absolutely literally.

Hey Funk,

True... I've changed many pickups in my guitars, but it's been a while since I've installed a brand new one where the wires had never been soldered. I completely forgot about that. I found a link here on the SD forum to a page that spoke about how humbuckers work, it a had a picture of the SD wire colors and what each color was. It was only after looking at that picture that I realized what I had done wrong.

It would be kind of nice if SD mentioned in their instructions that those two wires are supposed to be soldered together, THEN taped off. At least for the next guy anyway. I'm hoping this made an impression in my head. :cool2:
