My uncle says he has a holiday guitar, help me find out what it is.

Hes trying to tell me its a telecaster, but from how hes describing it, its got to be a les paul body/pickup configuration.

He thinks a telecaster is what you call any guitar with a single cut.

Other than it having 2 humbuckers an 4 knobs, I know nothing else about it. Or it sounds like he was describing humbuckers, he says it was made in like 1965 or something.

Maybe a Telecaster Custom (could be wrong with the name)? 2 Humbuckers, 4 knobs, singlecut? The problem is those were made, if I'm not mistaken, in 72.

I'd just assume a LP.

Re: My uncle says he has a holiday guitar, help me find out what it is.

Im leaning towards it being an LP also, because when he sees a LP he calls it a telecaster.

And are they worth anything?

Because I need to let him know because hes one of them people who always gets taken when he trades stuff in. He traded a old sears silvertone tube amp in for a fender G-DEC.

Re: My uncle says he has a holiday guitar, help me find out what it is.

Could be anything. In the 60's, there were alot of weird ass guitars going around. Alot from Italy, Russia, and many others from Eurasia. Les Paul, probably not a telecaster since, IIRC they didnt start the double hummy thing until the early 70's, but it could be a vintage Gretch, or anything from over seas. Eko and all those all werid things.

When you get to see it remember to get and then show us some pictures... It's always nice to see an old instrument.

I just hope its an oddball.

If im lucky he might pass it down to me.

I just hope he gets off this "new is better" bandwagon hes starting to believe. "Transistors are better than tubes, tubes are old."

Re: My uncle says he has a holiday guitar, help me find out what it is.

Not that its extremelly hard to get (you only have to know extremelly basic Italian), but I can rule out some Eko models... I could send you there catalog... or maybe the link to it...

http://www.eko.it/eko/risorse/file.php?id=7

That's it... won't probably help you much but you can rule it out by showing it to your uncle.

Re: My uncle says he has a holiday guitar, help me find out what it is.

He said the name on the headstock is "Holiday" are eko's the maker of holiday or something?

Im just wanting to know if its of any value, because if it is I want to make sure he doesn't go to a guitar shop and get took into trading it for a squier bullet or something.

Well, google pulled up nothing on holiday guitars or anything of the like, and on ebay there where 2 holiday brand guitars, but both acoustic. both seemed Asian made, possibly with "cost efficiant" materials. Both were going for pretty cheap too.

I thought holiday was somekind of term for either beater or so special its only played on holidays. My Eko link was inspired by beandips ideas.

I'll try to find something about it.

I just took a look at the Eko catalog, and none of their guitars are anything like what they were turning out in the 60's.

It'd be interesting to see exactly what it is, I might try to go over to his house tomorrow and get some pics.

Yeah, a few close ones, but since it had both LP and Tele designs I thought it was worth showing.
