+1. I had a gun, and that thing was such a PITA. It had even been made to look like a revolver ... how cheezy is that?

For my next wiring project (a push-pull pot in my USA Strat to turn on the neck pickup) I will be getting one of the pen irons recommended above.

i ahve heard about orange drop caps a lot, and i see they are mostly used for amps. if i got the right one, could i use it on my tone pot? how would it sound? what are some other alternatives to the basic caps?

also, something is fishy..... i had it in my mind which pickup was the rw/rp middle, and the regular neck. they told me on the box, and i remembered which one i opened. then i heard with rp pickups, you put the pole-pieces facing eachother, and if they attract, its rp. i tried this, and it turns out that what i thought the neck pickup was, attracts both the bridge and "middle" pickups. so i placed what i thereafter believed was the right pickups in place. but i took a glance at the wires, and looking at them with the pickguard upside- down, the middle and bridge pickups have the white wire coming out of the right side and the black wire coming out of the left side, but the neck pickup has it reversed...... WHATS GOING ON HERE?

btw... what i ordered was an antiquity II surfer neck and rw/rp middle, and the ant I texas hot bridge.

im sure its been mentioned i didnt care to read through all the stuff, you could go to radio shack and buy some parts that you could test your soldering skills on first...
practice soldering wire to your pots and such

May I suggest the following on top of the soldering iron and solder:

1. A small wire cutter to cut the wires in tight places.

2. A small long nose plier to hold the wires during soldering. The wires get hot real fast. You can also use it to bend the wires when necessary.

3. A piece of sponge to clean the iron tip.

4. A roll of electrical tape.

5. A pair of safety glasses. The solder may splatter.

6. A small wise can hold the parts for you when you want to free both of you hands to hold the soldering iron and the solder.

7. Rags to protect the finish of your guitar.

8. A voltmeter to check you wiring before you do the final assembly.

You can probably get all the above from Home Depot or Radio Shack except the sponge.

Don't forget to unplug the iron when you have finished or if you have to leave your work bench.

I personally prefer polyester film capacitors, but since you are using single coil pickups, the ceramic ones are fine provided they are of the correct value.

You do need shielded cables, but the cable you have attached seems too heavy. Guitar pickups use very little current and low voltage, I would use a cable with a little heavier gage than the one that comes with the pickups.
