My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

1- Misc cosmetic fixes $100

im assuming that the new face plate fell under this aspect

Yep! faceplate, grill cloth, grill cloth instalation (before I realized I could do just as good) a new back panel and a few screws etc.

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

Now now!! I hope by now that all you bros on here know me better than that. This one hasn't and won't go anywhere!!!

It would be equal parts surprise and disappointment if you sold that baby. If that goes anywhere, it had better be to your first-born. I know you won't part with it...right?

Dude I promise not to sell it.

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

Sure. We believe you. *turns head and chuckles silently*

Yo, Greg: You still looking for a custom tele? You should check out Melancon Guitars. Great axes. Great builder. He uses a "compensated scale" to correct the intonation issues we all face. Gerard has said that God gave him the solution in a dream.

Scott Bernard endorses Melancons and has a HB tele and a s/c tele (see below for clips).

Then again, Carmine endorses them, too.;)

BTW, it's pronounced "meh-lahn-sahn."

And IIRC, a certain Grammy winning artist that used to frequent these pages used Melancons :laugh2:

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

well, you know we're just a little skeptical :)

great compact gigging package ... I don't know about a '75, but early SFs that can be easily BFed are some of the best deals out there, IMO. PTP wiring, easily repaired and modded, and TONE.

my only constructive criticism: I might've considered pre-aged grill cloth, or given it the coffee treatment to make it look more vintage than reissue

a minor thing though

just play the crap out of it!

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

B Man,,,, Where do you all find old blk faces for 700 bucks, working or not??? I had a 66 vibrolux reverb as a kid and when I figured out the reissues didn't even come close, I bought a Bruno.

I never see any old nice fenders here in alaska. Where can I find an old pro reverb or vibrolux reverb. Put me onto one, or two or three, ha ha. I've had friends tell me they still see them in stores in lower 48.

Good deal ya got there.

His is a '75 man, it's a silverface. He had the amp modified to meet blackface specifications and then put a black control plate on it...but it was originally a silverface when he bought it. That's how he got it for that price :)

Ok, I finally got it, thanks. I still hear there are some out there and can be found for around a gran.

I also have TRRI cus 15, never play her since I got the bruno. Only amp tech in Ak tells me he can do wonders on her; maybe should drop it off nx summer. Those cowtippers are really only souped up bandmasters I hear but way they sound is unreal.

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

That's a heck of an amp! Even for the money, it's a good deal to take a classic like that, and make it as good as can be.

I'd love to find a Pro Reverb and do the same thing.

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

As a strictly collectors issue, never do any mods to an old amp that cannot be undone and the amp put back in stock form.

Not to rock the boat there but a mid 70's SF Fender will never be worth the cash that a mid 60's BF Fender is worth...it's simply not gonna happen because a middle 70's Fender simply is not as good sounding of an amp as a middle 60's BF Fender. Middle 60's Fender amps are vintage amps while middle 70's Fender amps are simply old amps...

When I found the amp that Greg is talking about it was in a local shop and looked and sounded terrible...the shop that had it did the bare minimum to make it work and it did sound a bit better by the time Greg bought it...after new speakers and tubes it started actually having a decent tone to it. Greg cleaned it up, got a new face plate for it, new grill cloth (some jackass painted the opriginal cloth with a spray can) and cleaned it up then it started looking better too. Now that (after much poking and proding from me) he got a cap job and a BF conversion I bet the amps sounds amazing...I have not heard it since it got back from the shop but Im betting it's killer...it wasn't bad before but it was lacking.

The point of this rant was to say that we, as players should feel free to mod and tweak every SF Fender we can get out hands on...after the correct mods and tweaks a SF Fender can sound just as good as a BF Fender for a lot less cash overall.

true for BF Fenders or real vintage pieces

however, as TGWIF said, the mods that B did are all improvements on a SF model

a decent early SF Fender is one of the best deals out there.

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

My Silverface Bandmaster Reverb isn't getting any mods...it sounds great as is. It may need some caps at some point, of course. By the way, does anyone know a good amp guy in the Houston area? I need a tech to look over my BF Bandmaster and I know Jeff Seal is too busy...

Silverfaces aren't the same as BF's in terms of tone, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll never be somewhat collectable or 'vintage'. Even 70's Strats are bringing in more $ than I thought they ever would on ebay.

Re: My Vibrolux Reverb...............................

Something happen to it or just gonna get it looked at?

Hey man, Happy New Year!

She worked fine when you sent her out bro, but now the vibrato is totally out and she's making some crackling noises...does not seem to be related to the pots at all. Just want her checked out to avoid any ongoing minor issues becoming major ones, ya know? :fingersx:

It's about time for a checkup, she is turning 40 this year after all! Did you have it serviced at all? I haven't even opened it up; I'm a dummy when it comes to servicing an amp other than tube changes, lol. Someone with my level of knowledge digging around in there must have a death wish or something.
