so earlier I traded a dyna comp and a flanger for a box of pickups. Lots of semi interesting stuff in there...
1) emg lj5
2) late model emg p
3) ultrasonic bill lawrence ref. 6 humbucker (really cool - I remember these... and hey kirk hammet endorsed so... yeah that doesn't mean much to me either)
4) set of rose pickups bourbon and alba tele (score!)
5) set of buddha a2 65 custom strat singles (ok, kinda cool)
6) set of 2007 american std singles (yay)
7) set of c and b buckers from a prs (meh)
8) matsumoku mmk 45
9) mexican single
and I'm down to two more that are pretty obscure, one of which is interesting to me. looked to have interesting poles so I pulled it apart and above is what I found. Now I know one can't id every obscure pickup known to man but I found it to be a very unusual design - perhaps inspired by hofner 511? double staple coils hidden under normal lp type cover? just wondering what the wise pickup experts here might think, if they think anything at all. Otherwise just revel with me in the magic bliss that can only come from the box of mystery pickups!

That’s a Maxon pickup. Those were in lots of Japanese guitars like Sekova, Univox and others. They are very similar to the Maxon pickups in the Univox Hi-Flyer.

My first decent electric was a Sekova LP copy with those pickups.

Maxon is the same company that designed and builds the Tube Screamer for Ibanez.

They are decent pickups and could easily be sold to people restoring old Japanese guitars.

very familiar with maxon od/delay but had no idea they ever made pickups. also did not expect such a quick and direct answer. should never have questioned the breadth of knowledge of pickups here! Thank you for enlightening me... going to research them now!

Yup, looks like Maxon

Got a side view of bobbins and mag?

looking on google at maxon... yup... nailed it. the tell tale smaller feet on the base... the poles match... interesting stuff. not sure how reliable but the numbers would indicate 1971 I guess? gonna def have to throw this in something and try it but the lead wire is in rough shape and I have large fingers!
