Mystery Pickup

Hello all,

I just purchased a 1972 Les Paul Deluxe, aftermarket humbucker route, with a mystery pickup in the neck. The bridge is a vintage Duncan 59, but there are no marks on the neck pickup. It has 4-conductor wires inside a white insulated lead.

Any insights (I have n ever seen a pickup with a white lead before) woul dbe appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Mystery Pickup

The four-conductor + shield cable is clearly non-original. The baseplate could be too.

Re: Mystery Pickup

You should take a reading of the DCR. I would guess a 59N, when its in the 7.4k ballpark.

Re: Mystery Pickup

Thanks. On my analog multimeter (soooo need to get a digi) it reads just about 8 while in the guitar, just slightly more than the AP2 in my Les Paul DC.

Re: Mystery Pickup

Might be an older 59n that was converted to 4-wire before they were available that way.

The tape marks on the baseplate remind me of the 80s Dirty Fingers I have, but they also have stamps.

Re: Mystery Pickup

Sounds great. Haven't had a chance to A/B with a 59neck in any of my other guitars. It is staying in, was just curious as to what it was.
