Mystery pups

I've got an HSH-config guitar from 1991, built in the Fujigen Gakki factory. It originally (supposedly) shipped with Dimarzio pups. But there are no markings on the base plates. Haven't measured DC resistance, as I'd rather not unsolder. The humbucker's lead colors are:

Yellow
Red
Blue
Black

The single coil's are:

Black
White

There are apaprently old Ibanez Super 80's with the corresponding colors, and it would make sense, as Fujigen were building the high-end Ibanez guitars at the same time. But the super 80's, from what I can tell, only came with pup covers - these have exposed bobbins and no sign of ever having had metal covers soldered on - and double slug coils - mine have the standard slug/screw division.

Doubting these are still the original Dimarzios. I've emailed them and will hopefully get a response soon, but does anyone know which brand the pups they might be?

Re: Mystery pups

I assume you tried this already, but if not ... If you go to the Heartfield site, they have PDF wiring diagrams for the 3 Elan models. They all show the same humbuckers (part #'s 035137 neck and 035138 bridge) with corresponding wire colors that match what you have listed. My guess would be that some of the III's got Dimarzios as advertised (or maybe they didn't), while others got the in-house pickups. Beyond that, I got nothing.

Re: Mystery pups

Yeah, I did. Even been in contact with the guy running the site, but he doesn't know either.

Re: Mystery pups

Part number labels or engravings on the pickups that match those in the wiring diagrams would give you a definitive answer, obviously. Based on the wire colors matching those diagrams, I think you have the pickups that they built in-house. Beyond that, you are probably chasing a ghost. They are what they are. If they sound good, be happy.

Re: Mystery pups

Not markings or etchings whatsoever on the baseplates. Its a shame too, I really like those pups, I'd want another pair to put in another guitar I have.
Think I'll try to email Fujigen, though I doubt they still have anyone around that would know.
