Yeah, its a Squire, but it actually plays decent. Really low action with no buzz whatsoever. A little lower than I normally like.

I'm thinking a matte black pick guard with a single humbucker. Maybe custom custom. And new tuners.

I'd probably send the pickguard to Pickguard Heaven and have them do a single hum beveled single ply gloss black.
Install a red Perpetual Burn. Sand all the satin finish off, including logo, and tung oil finish it. File the fret ends and roll the edges for a worn in feel. Install a Tusq XL nut, and anchor the bridge. Replace the tuners with Am. Std. tuners.
