Re: N($25)GD

I'd probably send the pickguard to Pickguard Heaven and have them do a single hum beveled single ply gloss black.
Install a red Perpetual Burn. Sand all the satin finish off, including logo, and tung oil finish it. File the fret ends and roll the edges for a worn in feel. Install a Tusq XL nut, and anchor the bridge. Replace the tuners with Am. Std. tuners.

Been busy on the neck this evening.

Guitarfetish has a nice selection of pickguards as well

For now, I'm going to use the pickguard it came with, slightly modded. If I do new, I'll probably go to WD Music Priducts. Its a 20 minute drive.

Re: N($25)GD

With a little love and elbow grease, cheap Squiers can do some serious damage.

I recently tried an Affinity at a luthier's place here in Santiago which had been setup for floating and the damn thing would not go out of tune no matter what.
Stock tuners but it had some upgrades regarding nut, string trees and some careful setup work of course. The guy had it dialed perfectly.

Keep posting pictures man!

Re: N($25)GD

Reminds me of my Charvel Model 1a. It's getting a HS setup with a new guard, and probably two volumes with push/pull switching, no visible switches.

Re: N($25)GD

Installed some Hipshot locking tuners this evening after some screw hole filling and reaming the tuner holes to 10mm.

I ended up going with 5 coats of Tung oil on the neck and headstock.

After a little work to do on the new nut, the neck will be done.
