It's been quite a while since I "NEEDED" a 100W head & for all intents and purposes I really don't need one now? Anyhow, the opportunity for me to pick up a brand new 100W Valveking-ii fairly cheap presented itself so I jumped on it and Jezz does it have a little something under the hood!!! It's not the worlds greatest tube amp or anything but it serves my needs just fine & I'm thinking that power won't be a issue for me anytime soon?
I'm currently running it into two 16ohm 2X12 cabinets in parallel. One of them is loaded with a Vintage30/Creamback combination (that's the flavor) & I pulled out the old Jensen's that were in my late 60's Fender 2x12 & then dropped in a couple G12T-100's! For the most part I'll probably just run it into one cab, the V-30/Creamback cabinet & I'll set the head at the 50W or 25W power setting but I had to crank it on the 100W setting to try it out!!!! I managed to rattle a picture off the wall without really even pushing it & once I did start pushing the head it sounded great & held together well.
I have to say for the price I'm pretty impressed!!!! I got this one well under retail but even so, pound for pound & dollar for dollar you get a lot of amp for your money! Guess that's pretty much always been the case with Peavy to some extent though???
Now, let's see how long I can play before someone calls the police.....
