N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

Lol, I hope nobody in my neighborhood was planning on sleeping in this morning!!!

It's been quite a while since I "NEEDED" a 100W head & for all intents and purposes I really don't need one now? Anyhow, the opportunity for me to pick up a brand new 100W Valveking-ii fairly cheap presented itself so I jumped on it and Jezz does it have a little something under the hood!!! It's not the worlds greatest tube amp or anything but it serves my needs just fine & I'm thinking that power won't be a issue for me anytime soon?

I'm currently running it into two 16ohm 2X12 cabinets in parallel. One of them is loaded with a Vintage30/Creamback combination (that's the flavor) & I pulled out the old Jensen's that were in my late 60's Fender 2x12 & then dropped in a couple G12T-100's! For the most part I'll probably just run it into one cab, the V-30/Creamback cabinet & I'll set the head at the 50W or 25W power setting but I had to crank it on the 100W setting to try it out!!!! I managed to rattle a picture off the wall without really even pushing it & once I did start pushing the head it sounded great & held together well.

I have to say for the price I'm pretty impressed!!!! I got this one well under retail but even so, pound for pound & dollar for dollar you get a lot of amp for your money! Guess that's pretty much always been the case with Peavy to some extent though???

Now, let's see how long I can play before someone calls the police.....

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

I used to have a 50/100w carvin mts (imo horrible amp), boy that sucker used to make stuff shake. Been using 20w amps lately and boy even those are borderline too loud in my current setting. I don't recall ever putting the mts on 100.

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

I've got several 5W-15W valve amps already & they are what I spend 95% of my time playing through. Your right, even a 15W head running out of a single Greenback can be too loud for certain situations (I.E.-bedroom practice/recording/Ect.) but since I typically use a relatively clean tone for my base signal & use pedals for my dirt, the extra headroom should come in handy when I do play with friends or whatever???

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

BTW, that white 2X12 in the picture looked a dam site bigger yesterday! Perhaps I'll just wrap the whole thing up with duct tape and paint it black? Just have an insanely loud, ugly, and bulky 2X12 combo amp, LOL!!!:joke:

No, I'm probably just going to to get an unloaded Avatar 4X12 slant cab eventually. I've got plenty of 12in drivers laying around my house, even more that are in cabinets and can be swapped out for something else. I'll probably just end up putting my Creamback back inside my DSL-40C since that was the original plan all along & steal it's current Vintage-30 for the 4X12.

If I were to do that it would give me two Vintage-30's & two G12T-100's. They'll most likely be wired in an X pattern inside the 4X12 afterwards but we'll see? In any case, I'm sure I can come up with some kind of cool speaker combination for it and she'll definitely move enough air to really reach out and kick you in the gut!!!!

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

i gig with small amps but i fire up my dual showman reverb at least once a year to remind me (and my neighbors) what four big bottles sounds like. the bottom end of four 6l6gc's and the quick attack brings a smile to my face every time

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

I wish I had my wall of amps with me every time I had to listen to someone's kid scream and cry in public, every time I had to listen to car woofers blasting rap or ranchero music, every time a neighbor had an all night house party, and every time someone revved a motorcycle in their driveway for 5 minutes.

If I have to put up with their noise, they have to put up with mine.

I love cranking 100 watt tube amps!!

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

My randall RG100 doesn't go above about 5 at practice, and it could honestly go a lot lower.

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

I can't take that type of volume for very long. My 18 watt amp is on 3 at gigs.

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

Like you said a lot of amp for the money you spent..I had a Carvin mts 3200 100 watt head and I cranked it to about halfway on the 100 watt setting, all 4-6l6's screaming, and yes it was loud as *#%!!!!

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

Afterthought : . . . do they still make the Butcher amp ?

I too have never had mine above 5.. lol Back when I was playing a band which was awhile back.. lol amp was only a few years old..

I had it running through an ampeg 4X12 loaded with celestians.. not sure on the model but they where 80 watts each.. Its scary how loud it can get

head/4x12.. nothing sounds as good

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

Haha. Of course it's gonna be loud.

I still don't have a valid excuse to crank my 50 watt Plexi.

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

I crank my Bassman through a 4x12 all the time; all my neighbors have dogs that bark all day and night so if they complain (no one has yet), they can STFU.

Re: N.A.D.!!! Holy Hell, I Nearly Forgot Just How Loud 100W Heads Are!!!

Congrats on the new amp!!

My first tube amp was a Carvin MTS3212 and it could make things shake.. Then I started running it thru a 4x12 too. More better!! OpenLane, mine sounded really good. (at first) Had a great clean and od. But started making a flubbing noise that could not be diagnosed, so sold it..

I agree with Jolly and others that loud is fun and they sound good opened up, but its amazing how STUPID loud a 100w tube amp can get.. But IMO, its an awesome feeling when you feel the floor shake and feel it hit you in the chest..
