N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

That's a beauty for sure. I picked up an older Cort a couple years back; set neck, mahogany body, dual EMGs from prior owner install, it had a fat prominently V Shaped neck with a nice flat fretboard and well finished jumbo frets - just a fabulous player and, like yours, under $200.00. Cort does make some good stuff.

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Yes, they do. I'm surprised someone would change out the originals for EMG's. The originals aren't really bad at all, but they tend to have the same characteristics of the EMG's I'm familiar with. Clean, almost sterile. That's not necessarily bad, it just is what it is.

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Sweet looking guitar...that top looks amazing! Probably a veneer but quite possibly an all maple cap..don't let the price fool you. Pretty sure it's an all-mahogany body too. Corts' are usually built well above everything else in their price range quality-wise....excellent fit/build quality very decent hardware, nice sounding pu's & (especially) amazing tops/finishes.. I love both my Cort shred machines lol. If they had "Jackson" on their headstock's....they'd cause a riot ( ..& also probably cost well over $3000 each haha :laugh2: )

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

A bit of history about Cort guitars... Many years ago now, the Fender Squiers were made in Korea, many would argue the best quality Squiers ever made. That same factory also used to produce many other brands, including Epiphone and other ghost builds. Now we see Cort and thinking they are inferior guitars, when in fact reality, they are just not hiding behind an American manufacturer anymore. Many guitars including PRS and Chapman guitars are made by them too. That is an excellent find, congrats!

Good info Db. Thanks.

So now, the PG's have arrived. But my schedule is full. I'm dying to see how these go together. I just gotta find a spare moment. :yell:

Hi mate, I just joined the forum to tell you congratulations on joining the Cort CL 1000 owners club :)

(I own one, but have been searching the net for another one to buy, so I clicked this result on Google, hoping you had one to sell...alas, it was the opposite)

I've had mine for about 6 years; it has exactly the same finish as yours (although mine has the bookmatched thing going on...which is a proper cap, from what I've been told)

You will love it...It is my GO TO humbucker guitar now. I replaced the pups as well, but not with SDs (can I say that here?) I took out the stock MightyMites, and put in a pair of Tonerider Rocksongs, which are magnificent. I reckon the PGs should be great as well. It's solid as a rock, not too heavy for long nights, and the coil split is fantastic as well (though that will depend on your buckers, I guess) Not to mention the gorgeous shape (Les Paul meets Belman kinda thing)

Good luck with it!

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Welcome to the forum eldorado. I started to install the PG's tonight. Realized I didn't have an LP-style 3-way in stock. :banghead:

I will not put that cheap-ass "box" 3-way back in.

Artie

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Is you put that cort in a press it would leak out all the tears from the workers who made it :dunno:
brutal hey, i think you must appreciate some of these cheaper instruments, Knowing what the lives are like of some of the people that make them is truly heart breaking.

Sorry Artie i wanted to post that video somewhere haha

Not a prob man, but lets keep this in context. How is this different than Joe Blow who works at GM?

That_Cort_Thang.jpg

How many cars does your average GM/Ford worker produce in a month? Does his/her monthly wage equal the cost of a car?

You can be a blue collar worker, or you can rise above it. At least in America, it's your choice. (With certain limitations. I get that.)

Don't mean to burst your bubble here Kramer..just playing devil's advocate.:

Is'nt it funny that Cort (which has been making Fender's, LTD's, PRS's, Ibby's & god knows how many other guitars for decades) suddenly has this massive union trouble/worker unrest/lock-outs etc ...all strangely coinciding exactly with the time when they make a big push & get really serious about selling their own line of "CORT" branded instruments? How come their work-force was fine making Fender's, PRS's, LTD's, Ibby's etc all these years. As someone with bitter personal experience...I smell a Cartel at work & all the bull**** that goes with it..

Lol, sounds like someone does'nt really want them getting above themselves, especially since they're selling instruments that (at a given price level) are the same/better quality & have better features/finishes for a fraction of the price of the competition...

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Cort makes some nice guitars. And they are affordable.

Dont want to derail this thread. I understand labour is cheap in Korea compared to the US or UK. But I just dont get the argument a blue collar worker getting paid 1 million won and expensive guitars costing 2-3 million won. It is not that Corts are expensive, infact they are the opposite. The Cartel angle that Jimmy pointed out is shockingly a very real thing.

Congrats man, she is a stunner, and AFAIC, there's nothing wrong about a thin figured veneer over a plain full-thickness top, if that is indeed the case. That's how my Michael Kelly is made and she's one of the best sounding guitars I've owned.

Congrats!

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

For the money, Cort was making some awesome guitars in the late 90's and early 2000's. I had a few of the acoustics and a couple of the Matt Guitar Murphy signature models.

Re: N(cheap-ish)GD: Cort CL1000

Well dang! Now that I've got the PG's in here, (which sound friggin' amazing), I'm playing it more, and realizing that ergonomically, it just doesn't "click" with me. For some reason, it just wants to slide off my lap. I have to play it with a strap, which I hate. I think I'm going to move these PG's over to my Schecter Blackjack, which is is still a Mahogany set neck, solid bridge, guitar. The Schecter is clearly a better axe.

And I so wanted to love this thang.
