Well its taken 45 years but i have the guitar of my dreams and what a piece of lumber.
10 lbs 6 oz of 1997 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 68 reissue.
After wringing necks with Fedex over the phone and a trip to their warehouse its here.
If this is what shipping is like post covid i hope i never have to do it again.
Anyway happy trails buckeroo.
My wife gave her blessing. Didn't have to tell me twice.
Guitar Chimp for your lifetime guitar.
Cant say enough good about them.
They have the highest + feedback ive ever seen and what a packing job.

Nice one. What pickups did they put in the '97s to get a '68 sound? (Real '68s would have been stamped Pat No. T-Tops, no? Just wondering what they used in the '97 RI version)

Reissues are for poseurs

If you want the real mojo of a 68, you need a real 68

um its a 68 in every way.
The hand labor, specs & detail is astounding.
And this one is 26 yrs old.
But i really don't care what you think so there's that.

A 68 is 55 years old.

The measurements may all the same, but the wood and the lacquer and the resonance are 30 years better.

Not to mention the pickups...which is a whole other deal.

looks great! im much more a burst guy, thanks to duane and billy mostly, but i dig it! 10 lbs is a bit heavy on the shoulder for a three hour gig but if it kicks enough ass, ya make it work.

pffftt whatever budokan boy

And I'm a poseur....what's your point? :nana::dance::9:

Woah, 10 lbs 6 oz!

I've tended to like the sound of the heavier guitars I've played, bet it sounds awesome!

I can only speak for this guitar as its my first Custom Shop but it is spectacular, something extraordinary.
1997 was a good year for the GCS.
I guess if Agnesi and his minions need to do legal wrangling and whatnot to preserve the Gibson brand for guitars like these i can support that.
