NAD: Bogner content

So the amp I traded my 65amps Memphis for landed a couple of hours ago - Bogner Shiva 6L6. It had been a while since I demoed one, but I remember loving it. I just spent a bit playing it, and even with the volume relatively low I had a grin on my face. There's just something about the feel of these amps I like, must be the compression. I'm looking forward to trying this out at full stage volume with a band.

Re: NAD: Bogner content

To me, there's different qualities of compression. Cheap amps that sound compressed get all middy and muddy, and harmonically stripped, like there's a blanket over the speaker.

Bogner compression just makes the amp sound cranked at normal volumes, and gives a nice bouncy feel under the fingers. Up loud, it's a big throaty roar. The amp still sounds clear and open though. That's the appeal of Bogner amps.

This is a great description of what I'm feeling, thanks.

Re: NAD: Bogner content

Here's a quick crappy clip, pretty low-volume.

Cleans first, then dirty channel. I move the gain knob on the dirty channel, all EQ knobs stay put. Guitar is a black limba tele w/ Lollar P90s, neck pickup for cleans and bridge pickup on the dirty side.

Sennheiser e906 close mic'd center on a Celestion V30 -> Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 -> Logic Pro.

Amp settings (except the gain knob, which moves around):

One more clip, this time with my Klein-single-coil-loaded telecaster (tuned down a step).

I see from your settings you don't like Bass much. Curious why you got the 6L6 Shiva rather than the EL34 one.

I just roll the bass down at home, to keep low-volume tones from being too boomy. These settings will change quite a bit at stage volumes. Also, "0" is straight down on this amp, 6:00.

Re: NAD: Bogner content

My Bogner Shiva was great at getting real close to a deluxe reverb blackface sound. It was too smooth to have that famous Marshall edge, cause Ive got a few old Marshalls, but mine was not the new Shiva. I think they fixed that , but the Shiva with my London Amps '65 treble boost ( i got that here- who sold that to me?) treble boost got a real Marshall JMP vibe happening to it . Great amp, and If I wasn't dead set on getting a old blackface, i woulda kept it.

I'd have bought a Marshall if that's what I wanted :D. I just wanted a solid amp for rock tones.
