NAD DSL 40C

Really wanted the Marshall tone back, I been using pedals and Fender for over 2 years. I played these in the past and started listening to more of the demo's and there's some good sounding ones out. I traded my twin in for the Marshall im deciding on changing the speaker some say its actually decent once it breaks in. Will see when I get some cranking time to see how I really like. Its not as fat sounding as the twin because its a 212 and 6l6 but marshall more of a mids and dynamics tone. Anyone rocking one?

Re: NAD DSL 40C

I have one. Bought mine (lightly) used, so I can't really tell how broken-in the speaker got.

I had a chance to put a JBL D120 in it, which could not be passed up. I love the thing.

I think there is a fairly strong consensus that the stock speaker will not get to a place that does justice to the amp, although some folks seem to like it. You will see a lot of recommendations to put a Creamback in it, and/or other Celestion models.

Re: NAD DSL 40C

I love mine! For a short time, Sweetwater had a free upgrade speaker to a Celestion Creamback... I love the sound of the amp, real Marshall tones there. The reverb sucks, but I use a chorus, delay, and Mr. Black Deluxe Plus in the effects loop; its a mute issue for me.

What's the build quality like? I've heard a few good things about the new DSLs and have been curious how they compare to the original DSLs.

Only down thing is the MDF cab so far I see, maybe not a lot of difference? rest is all good with fit and finish, knobs seem a little more sturdy then the JVM I had a while back. Trans look pretty beefy.

Good to hear. I had a friend who runs a local music shop trying to sell me on the 15 a while back, but I never did get around to giving it a test drive.

That's one of those deals I'll live to regret not taking advantage of.

I've got one, and I'm a Michigan boy as well (work at Continental Automotive in Auburn Hills). I also got mine used, and it had a fairly new WGS Liberator speaker in it. I'm not sure how the stock one sounded but this one sounds ok. The drive channels I'm not too crazy about, which is a shame since I wanted that marshall crunch. I am really fond of the clean/crunch channels though, especially with different dirt pedals. If the reverb was better it would make it top notch.

Re: NAD DSL 40C

I hate to say it, but mdf sucks tone. Maybe hdf would be better, but a cab with voidless plywood at the least, is the way to go. I like what I have heard from the DSL15. I imagine that I would like the 40, but in head form if it comes that way, so I could match it to a better cab/speaker combo.

Michigan members unite!!

I played the 40 and the 15 back to back at Guitar Center once and vastly preferred the 40.
