NAD Fender content

I have had my eye on this amp for a while. I have 3 other Fender amps from different series and decades I have been GASing for a FM 212. I am digging it so far, great dynamics and it is a loud little monster. I think this is going to become my number one amp soon.

Those amps have A LOT of headroom! I've seen good deals on the bay occasionally but I think people tend to hang on to these.

Fender got it right with this one.

Re: NAD Fender content

Nice score! I see you got the foot switch, too.

I have not yet been lucky enough to add a 212R to my arsenal. I think it would pair well with my Twin.

How does it sound when you push it with a Metal Zone?

Re: NAD Fender content

Not too familiar with this line - what does it excel at?

It is just an all-around great general purpose amp like most Fenders. I get a great classic rock, blues and jazz tone out of it.

Djent heaven. If I really crank the gain on the Metal Zone the amp really sings. I haven’t tried it out with the Soul Food yet but I am expecting great things.

Do these have an option to hook up an extension cab? That would sound monstrous...

There is no external out I am thinking about taking it to an amp tech and having it modded for one. Fender makes a great FM series cabinet I already have one I can’t wait to match these babies together.

I am so happy with the tone I am thinking about getting a second one so I can go stereo.

Re: NAD Fender content

I have heard of people saying they got better tones oh of that little Fender than a Diesel or Solano.

There is a guy in Billerica who specializes in modding Fenders. "Fender Bender" is the name he goes by. I got his card from the bulletin board at the local GC. I think if anyone could bring that thing to the next level for you, he can.

If you are going to run stereo, make sure you separate the amps by 15 - 20 feet. I also find it useful to run them out-of-phase with one another. It will mess with your head!

PM me his number I want to know if he can also do the gain stage mod that a lot of people do to the FM212s.

Cool score, one of my neighbours gets a wicked Winger tone from one of those. Every evening I can hear him wailing on Under One Condition for hours on end. He has a few posters of Kip in his bedroom, though that's not really related to guitar tone.

I always wondered how Winger got their tones. Now I know! Thanks.

I did some research using the google and you may be interested to know that your amp is the coveted all-black version - not the silver face. The darker grill cloth used on this model is preferred by players because it is highly resistant to beer stains.

I heard the black grill cloth gives the speaker a darker sound.

On the flip-side, it will show up other stains quite easily if all of your "buddies" come round for a play. :smokin:

Re: NAD Fender content

I bought this same exact amp in 2005, and I just traded it a few months ago in 2013. So to say I've spent time with it is an understatement.

The drive and more drive channels are not bad, you will be able to find some useable tones. With that said, those 2 channels aren't that great either, I always preferred my rat or big muff. But that's probably not why you bought this amp in the first place. The spring reverb is pretty nice, exactly what you'd expect from this unit. And the cleans are fantastic. Imho the speakers are not good, do not have a good bass response. Maybe my explorer is overly bassy, but I would always get that unusable woolfy-ness. So if you get a chance, I'd change those 2 out.

I passed on two silvers and waited until I found the black. The craftsmanship during the black era was a bit better IMO. No slam to those of you that have the silver.

Check the serial number to make sure the face plate wasn't replaced. A friend of mine picked one up that the owner swapped the face of. He was ****ed off.
