NAD! Friedman Dirty Shirley...

Re: NAD! Friedman Dirty Shirley...

I fully agree about hanging onto all classic Marshalls. I have an '84 800 4103 212 combo, and also have an 86 2204 head.
They're a couple I need to hang on to.
I'm keeping my eyes open for a used Dirty Shirley head though. I did sell an expensive acoustic this week. :nervous:

I don't think that you'll be disappointed when you get a Shirley. I played mine very loud yesterday and it's just so friggin awesome. All of the Friedman amps are awesome, but that amp sounds just so rich and smooth. LOVE IT!!!

Re: NAD! Friedman Dirty Shirley...

Yeah. I've tried a bunch and they all do their particular tone. Friedman amps are basically super Marshalls, whereas Bogners have their signature midrange growl, and an immense number of shades of gain.

The Dirty Shirley is funny because it's two 6L6, but it sounds like a cranked super Marshall at the perfect volume level. I like it more than most Friedmans. It's feel under the fingers is a big thing. That's the #1 thing that youtube clips can't convey, which you really notice with great amps.

Yeah... the Shirley is the only 5881/6L6 based amp that I've ever had that has been able to capture a great dirty-clean tone when you roll off the volume, but that has that classic EL34 roar when you go wide-open. It's special.
