NAD / H&K ToneMeister 20 head

ehdwuld

A Ficus
ok my replacement for my poor Bugera G5 has arrived

The Tonemeister 20 has the power scaling switch that will knock it from 20 Watts to 5 to 1 to speaker off
I set it at 5 watts because that is where the Bugera shined
its not the Bugera
the 5 watt setting was Extremely Loud
the one watt is the house setting, and it grinds wonderfully

I didnt get the footswitch to toggle between the lead and clean channels and switch the boost on and off
dont really need that at home

tried re purposing the Bugera Footswitch but the H&K was having none of it
that old Peavey FS I had in the closet , oh she liked him alright
got to relabel the buttons again , (maybe not)

the lights on the face are stunning in person
they don't photograph well

I will post some pictures when my imgur loads

:fest7:

I got one of the 18 watt ones and yes even at 5 watts it LOUD!. I do dig the sounds that come out of it, without the boost, does some really good 70s-80s tasty tones and with the boost, your are getting into some heavier tones.

Congrats on the new amp.

I was shocked at how loud 5 watts was

with the Bugera, I could crank the amp at 5 watts and still have a loud conversation over it
not yelling but loud conversation

this Tonemeister sounds great even at the lower 1 watt setting
havent tried the 20 watt yet

I was debating over the 40 watt version
with its slightly louder gig volume and reverb included

glad I didnt get that
that would have been another $400 bucks that was unnecessary

the Carvin Belair does that super loud 50 watt thing if I need it

the Laney GC80A is also super loud if I need it

I wanted the power scaling and emulated out for recording
now I got to find my short XLR cable

I got it thinking its a more townhouse friendly amp vs my Jubilee, nope. The 20 watt is crazy loud for a tiny lil amp but sounds so good.

Im running the 18 thru my Jubliee cab and have thought about getting the matching H&K cab which bring it down a lil but it sounds great thru the Marshall cab plus the space my guitar is in isnt very big, so throwing another cab in there would make it tight.

Just goes to show that not all watts are created equal. My 5W Picovalve can get very loud through it's 1x12 open cab. Of course, the C-Rex speaker is very efficient at 103.1dbs.

I have the 18 and love it.

18 watts is kickin'
5 is sporty for indoor daytime use.
1 is great for night-time after Mrs. Ace is in bed, and it does sound nice at that wattage/volume.
(playing through a Peavy 1x12)

For stage just use the Redbox out.

I really love the modern sound of it. A nice contrast to my Marshall oriented ears and amps.

Goldea?
i tried to find one of those for years

Yeah, same here. I finally got it straight from the factory in Tianjin, China ...not easy.

Though apart from the blue lights it doesn't really have anything in common with the H&K Tubemeister's tone-wise. In fact the person I was in contact w/ at the factory said it was a down-scaled, reverse-engineered Engl Savage.

Never played an Engl Savage (played Blackmore though, which I belive has some common DNA?) so I would'nt know how it compares...though if you compare YT clips I think I can hear a similarity. Anyway, all I know is it's an awesome little amp :bigthumb:

I have seen images and one or two videos of the Goldea

I have more questions about it than you do

Post some images of the front and back if you can

please

I know visually, it looks like the H&K

Thats as far as my experience goes

Sure, here you go...

And this is the video that gave me the GAS for it in the first place. I was obsessed & tried just about everything until I finally got my grubby paws on one ...you couldn't find them anywhere online at the time :laugh2:

Ok so with some more time with the amp
the lead channel sounds like the clean channel with my MT2 clone in front

Like exactly like it

I sonlove thsi amp

sorry Ace

let me translate

the lead channel sounds like my favorite pedal into the clean channel

and I have found more reason to really bond with this amp
