NAD Jet City JAC50H

So i finally decided to go from SS amp to tube amp and found a Jet City JCA50H for sale to replace my Orange Crush CR120H, after a couple a messages back and forth with the seller who is a drummer we came to an agreement to do a swap his amp for my Electronic drumset a Yamaha DTX430K.

So my question here is what should i do, a tubeswap will be made when I have money to buy new but which tubes shall i buy?
I'm thinking of a set of Tung-Sol 12AX7/ECC83 for preamp and a set of TAD RT212 Tube 6L6GC -STR Duett for power amp tubes, just because I want to get a smoother but brighter gain sound with not to much bass and mabye a bit more headroom for clean sound, am I going in the right direction or am I so far out at se that I can't se land?
It will be used with an Orange PPC212 Open Back cab with Celestion V30's.

Edit: Forgot to mention I don't have the amp yet but i will drive to go get it this weekend.

Play it and listen for a while - get to know how the controls shape tone, etc. Then try different tubes in V1 - while all tubes impact tone, it's that first one that does all the heavy lifting, and most shapes everything that comes after it. Dial that position in before swapping out others. Trust your ears.

Excellent advice. Don't be too quick to change anything, let the amp 'weigh in' for a while!

Don't put a Tung-Sol in V3 or V4. Both of those positions have a cathode follower section and Tung-Sols aren't built to spec for cathode followers and will die. Same thing for the Sovtek 12AX7LPS.

What cab will you be using? (oops, didn't read your comments too well)
I'm really interested in how that Crush compares to your Jet City. I don't know how good that Orange is but I know the Jet City is a beast.

While the Crush CR120 is a really Good amp it sometimes sounds a little sterile on the crunch channel because there are no valves to break up so to speak.
The Jet City is more alive and the overdrive with a little bit of tweaking just came to life like a beast and really beefed up the sound and made our songs feel as heavey as they should have been from the start.
The clean channel or as Jet City calls is the crunch channel is okay, we don't use it all to much but managed to dial in a descent sound, have not tried any pedals yet but a TC Electronics HOF mini will be going through the effects loop because although the amp is great it does lack a reverb.
The sound of the amp is 80's metal and with the other guitarist using a Blackstar HT100 which in my opinion is a more modern sounding amp the two really compliment each other.

As I said before the clean channel is well it's neither good nor bad but if you are looking for an amp to use for cleans than look a little bit more, with that said if you are for an amp to do roaring overdriven metal riffs then look no further and if you love that gritty rock crunch sound this is the amp for you.

All in all I really do love this amp and the swap was easilly the best i have ever made, it will be used for years to come.
